Bedroom Slide

Post by Roadrash on 1/24/2011, 12:24 pm

New Member with two questions. I store my cat under a shed. do most store with the slides out or closed up? I have noticed since the cold has settled in my bedroom slide creeps in 5 to 6 inches every couple of days. I don't see any leaks in th hydraulic system. any Ideas??

My manual that came with the cat says to store with the slides in, but I see seasonal units that sit all the time with the slides out I guess its one of those catch 22's

If you keep them closed you don't have to worry about the hyd cylinder rods being exposed and rusting which will take out the seals. Also I feel the slides seal tighter when closed than open.

Makes sense to store with the slides in. Before I winterized,I was using the furnace to prevent freezing. With the slides in the furnace vents are covered, so the slides had to stay out. I have given up on camping untill the cold breaks!! I had hoped to make a trip to tennessee, but will wait awhile.

I store in an enclosed shed with slides in. I have kept my cat at home in periods of cold weather, but always had the slides in. I put in a small electric heater just to keep the inside above freezing. Even though I had the cat winterized, I still opened the cabinet doors under kitchen and bathroom sinks. OCD kicking in I guess.

We store with the slides in. We don't have a garage for the Cat, and we don't heat it.

The furnace vents on our 29rlbs are all usable when the slides are in, and sometimes when we are traveling in cold weather, when we stop for lunch, we'll turn on the furnace. It doesn't take long to get the chill off with the slides in.

Stored with the slides in. Out of the way all the time. Plus one of my slide topper stores a lot of water. They have check valves in the system that is suppose to hold the slides open or shut. Might be in the pump. Some where one is leaking. We had the same problem with the hydraulic landing gear. Became a safety issue due to the leakage. FR was unable to fix it so we had them remove it.

We had been having the same problem from 26 months. After several trips to the dealer. Lippert sent several techs and flew in two experts to look at it, including the director of Engineering. So far it's holding out. Look for any leaks...even if it is just a few drops. We have discovered that temperature changes have a big effect on hydraulics and if there is a small leak it might cause the slide to drift in. I can give you the engineers email address is you need it.

Most of the time when the Cat is not in use, The slides are in. Eliminates settling of water or snow on the slide awnings. Even when the slides are out for a few weeks when traveling, neither the bedroom or living area slide creek in.

I have 2 concerns with my slides and none of them have to do with creeping.

Woodrome - Could you give me the email address.

Woodrome, I checked the lines going to the bedroom slide and the hydraulic pump conections and have found no leaks. The first time i noticed was after our first cold spell. May have been the temperature change. We have had an interesting winter so far this year!! Lots of temperature swings. I'll have to do more checking when the weather steadys up . More used to heat than freezing Laughing
thanks

Roadrash - They may not leak but if one of the check valves is it will creep.
