GiraffeG4 Overhead Protection for low vertical clearance
Found this new item in a magazine and thought I'd pass it along. Tells you vertical clearance as you drive under them on a display. You program your height and it'll alarm if the clearance is too low.

"The How it Works" content makes it seem as though you would have to make a complete stop with the rear view mirrors of the TV just under the overhead obstacle. You're less than 8 feet from a collision with the overhead obstacle at that point. Not very useful IMNSHO.

reads like its only useful at emergency fuel stops to get under canopys. At high way speed, you'd be toast and topless. That smells of " made for TV" commercial.
I thought some of the GPS units marked low overheads for you ? I think that would be a more worthy investment.
I guess in heavy snow it would come in handy on some bridges for a tractor trailer, but an RV i'm not so sure about. 190 bucks

You could buy a tape measure or 19 for that price and just get out and measure if you felt your were that close. Obviously it only works when you are stopped so it's not very helpful.

Admin, you are right about the gps I have a Garmin 465T for truck routes and it will route you around an overpass that is lower then what you have the gps set for. My cat is 12'7" so I have my gps set for 13' so far it has done great. Had one bridge that was 13'2" wife had to get out and take a second look. Held up traffic that day, but it was not a busy highway, didn't make to many people mad.

I was driving a Tractor trailer in New Jersey and came up on a overpass that had 12' marked on the sign. I slammed on brakes and luckily there was a trucker behind me that died laughing and told me that it was for snow or something that I'd fit under it. The road went into a warehouse off the river. Talking about panic, bumper to bumper and no where to go.

I think your are right.....VIGLILANCE is the key! They said there was a large sign, but the he was distracted, possibly due to age
. They said it was quite the jolt. That pic is after they had it pulled out from under the RR bridge.
