Chevy deisel 2500 HD 2 wheel drivel crew cab. Dislike mpg. Like: Spacious rear seating, smooth ride, seems to have adaquate power but I haven't towed in mountains as yet.

06 Duramax dually 4x4.
Tows well. Drives nice. Not great fuel mileage. Expensive to own and maintain.

2008 3500 Duramax. I like the power and smoothness of the ride. I hate the turning radius. You need a whole parking lot to turn around

Love the performance of the Duramax/Allison combo. Frequent mountain pulling, no problems. Fuel mileage shouldn't be a consideration when you're dragging a house behind you.

I am with gkeager on this one. I get asked all the time about how much gas it takes to get to my destination. I never keep track. I did it once just to make sure everything was running fine, but I never even look at what the fuel costs. I pull in, fill up, and carry on. With these rigs that we all haul around, there should be an expectation that fuel will be alot more than you would like.

I accept the fact that towing is fuel intensive. I guess I was thinking more of the mpg I get when not towing. Sorry...

2008 GMC Duramax CrewCab 4x4 and love it. It performs the best while towing. MPG's towing I range between 9-12 MPG. Solo I average between 17-19 MPG.

Re: Chevy/ GMC TV
The Duramax/Allison is a proven combo. Excellent power and reliability. Best ride of any HD truck I've been in. Very nice interiors. Love the looks of the new body style GMC's!
I'll absolutely be buying the same combo again if able.
My dislikes are very few. I wish the front end had a a few more inches of lift from the factory. To level the truck more and fit larger tires without rub. I don't like the grill/headlights of the '03 through '07 classic trucks. Wish mine was the new style but couldn't pass up the deal when I bought it in 08.

Re: Chevy/ GMC TV
We have an 05 GMC 2500HD Duramax we bought together with our WC from someone who wanted to sell the whole rig.
Mileage is great. Our old setup was a 99 Chevy conversion van towing a TT. TT weighed about 6000 lbs, and we got 8mpg towing. Our WC usually weighs at least 9000 lbs and we get 12-ish towing, depending on speed & conditions. 50% more trailer weight, with 50% better mileage over our previous setup. We just got back from a weekend up north (not towing) and our GMC got 22mpg where speed limit was 55, and 19 where it was 65 according to the driver information center. DW drives an 05 Trailblazer, and my GMC always gets better mileage.
Other likes...its a great winter weather truck. Driving while towing is much nicer than our old rig, no white knuckles any more.
On the downside is the extended cab, I would really prefer a crew cab. Maintenance & repairs are more expensive with a diesel, but we knew that when we bought the truck.

Re: Chevy/ GMC TV
2001 Chevy 2500HD, 8.1L gas, Allison transmission.
Has plenty of power, the Allison is great for towing.
No need to talk about fuel economy....between 8.5 to 9.5 gal/mi.
Most dislike are the back seats, we have 3 children and the middle seat has no head rest and has only a lap-belt. GM changed that in 2003 or 2004.

Love our '06 Chev. 2500 Duramax/Allison /crew Cab 4X4. First owner added Banks chip system and dual 4 inch exhaust.
LIKE: POWER (have power to spare) MPG (12.6 towing 10,000 lb WC, 21-23 @65 mph bob tailing)
COULD BE BETTER: GVWR. We are on the border line with our rig and I have to be careful what and how I load. I think this has been changed on the 2011s.

2008 Chevrolet 2500HD crew cab short bed Z-71 4x4 with duramax diesel. The engine and transmission are fantastic in this truck. If I could get a ford superduty with this engine and transmission I would be a happy man. I did have to add a bed mounted gravity feed tank to increase my towing range. The factory 26 gallon tank forced me to refuel every 180 miles.

06 chevy crewcab D/A 4x4, 2500 HD, I added airbags with incab controls so tv and 5er ride level, added indash navigation so i don't have to ask the wife how to get there. Used to use a map but the older i get the maps seem to get alot smaller and harder to read. even though my wife says there the same size as always.

I like mine as you can see in the sig I've done lots of mods mileage while towing depends on my speed usually get between 12-14 mpg. burned up the c3 and c4 cluthes in the trans. pretty common for 05 and older once you boost the power. no problems any more 150,00 miles still running strong.

Re: Chevy/ GMC TV
My GMC is a 2002, 2500HD duramax crew cab. I love the allison transmission. That thing has a mind of it's own. I really need to update our map. Two years ago, we traveled to Idaho, Washington , Oregon , California and Montana"Glacier Natl Pk." the truck handled all the hills, up and down just great. Very nice having the allison and duramax. They made the trip very enjoyable. We didn't find a hill we couldn't do the speed limit up and we did cross some nice hills. We also like the fuel mileage. We average 13 towing, 19 around town and 23 solo. We are very pleased. I am sure there are other trucks out there that are nice too, but we really like ours. Also I just replaced the tires at 53,000 miles. I feel we could have gone farther on the Bridgestones that came with the truck but didn't want to take a chance while towing. The tires weren't worn to the limit marks yet and I have never had the front end lined up and the tires wear great. Wish I would have gone diesel a long time ago!! Happy camping!!

New trailer questions
We just bought a Wildcat 29bhs pull behind camper. We have a 2007 2500 w/ Duramax and Allison and have been pulling a goosneck horse trailer with it for years.
We are new to the pull behind scene. Any recommendations for towing. Is the factory tow package setup sufficient to tow, or do we need some additional stabalization equipment?

First off
to the forum.Yes, the factory hitch set-up is fine. Weight distribution and sway control are extremely important (believe me, I know, I rolled our previous truck and pull-behind due to insufficient sway control).
I recommend this set up (I wish I had that one in the past): http://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distribution/Reese/RP66074.html
Friends of ours have it and are very happy.

Re: Chevy/ GMC TV
Hi Guys! We had some serious sway issues with our tow behind trailer extreamly unsafe. After installing the Hensley Arrow sway control system the sway was completly eliminated. It's not cheap but it does work GREAT! Give them a call and get the dvd. It will do everything they say. I really don't believe there is a better sway control unit. We have towed our trailer with a Hensley form Florida to Nova Scotia, out west, to Alaska and back. It tows as good as , I really believe it tows better than our fifth wheel. I have towed both and the trailer with a Hensley is just as good!! If you get a Hensley you will be a baliever!
