Had a 2006 F350 4x2 CC SB for 4 years, great truck, towed great but was just waiting for the 6.0 PSD to blow its headgaskets.

Have a 2008 F250 6.4 Crewcab 4x4 so far has been a good truck. My cat has a hitch weight of 2100 lbs loaded. had to put airbags on it to make the ride a little stiffer.

Of course the thing I dislike the most is the fuel mileage 14 without cat, average 10.6 with cat. So as soon as warranty is over will install a chip.

Ford has been the top rated truck for many years for many reasons. Today Dodge and Chevy have very good trucks also. I still like the Ford above all others. There is nothing not to like about a F350 PSD.

Great for the room, nice smooth engine. Rough empty ride (but hey..it is a truck!), gas mileage could be better (but hey..it is a truck!). Overall, I love my Ford.

Re: Ford TV

Post by North7 on 1/9/2011, 2:50 am

I'll echo the pros and cons stated above and offer another pro... safety. Unfortunately, I was involved in an experience this past August that confirmed why we travel in the F350 most of the time when travelling as a family. While driving through Toronto during a rain storm, the two cars in front of me hit water and hydro planed. Both cars spun and hit the concrete median wall and bounced back out into traffic blocking the 2 outside lanes. I was able to stop without hitting them but after stopping, we were rear-ended by a Chevy Silverado doing about 65 MPH.

We were lucky... only injuries were sore necks. The kids were watching a DVD in the back seat and the impact flung their headsets right off their heads affraid . There were 7 vehicles involved in total and we were the only vehicle that was able to drive from the scene. We ended up with about $20K in damages, but today it looks as good as new lol!

I hate to think what the outcome might have been if we had of been in our Ford Escape. Even though it costs more for fuel, when we travel as a family we do it in the F350 for this very reason. You can't put a price on safety Wink

You can't put a price on safety

Thats why I always leave a safety message on the page.

So glad ya'll were in the truck. man that was a heck of a hit at 65 mph and ya'll were sitting still against another car. Talking bout a pile driver , wowzer .....

you know I'm a Ford man, Thats pretty much been my main truck since I was driving my dads trucks on the farm as a kid barely big enough to touch the foot pedals and see over the steering wheel. Although he had a old chevy stepside that i actually learned to drive in which was a pretty cool truck. After that its been Fords for me.
They're tough trucks for sure. If I could hit the lotto I'd buy a brand new Ford, or if I could hit half a lotto I'd try and find a low milage 7.3 like the one I have and do it again.

I'm not knocking other brands at all, I've got friends that have had great service out of chevys and dodges and love them and wouldn't have anything else. My dad has a 2500 gasser that we haul a cattle trailer with and I like it except it feels like your sitting on the floor, which could be just his basic model of truck not sure about the upper models seats,,,,, But in my Ford I feel like I'm sitting a mile higher up in the cab.

You thinking about getting a Ford Sean ?

North7 I know exactly how you feel This is what mine looked like on 83 North in Maryland coming home from work at 45 MPH. Traffic was slowing for a line of military vehicles, guy behind me feel asleep. While the damage looks minor was over $7000 bent the frame, spring, hitch, had to have the airbag system replaced. Broke my seat back, but I drove it home. YEA Ford.

Re: Ford TV

Post by North7 on 1/10/2011, 3:33 am

Wow Rich, I can't believe how similar our two incidents were. Mine had very little visable damage also. I had a hitch in the 2" receiver and the hitch lined up with the Silverado's frame and took most of the impact. When I got out to inspect it I was shocked... I had a few dents in the tailgate, a cracked lens cover, dented bumper, and a really twisted and bent hitch.

However, after a closer look, you could see that the right hand side of my box was level with the rear window while the left hand side was a couple of inches below it. The bottom of my box had a 4" heave in it where the truck frame had been pushed up by the 2" reciever impact. The impact put me into the concrete barrier, so I needed a new front bumper and lighted running board also. The factory installed Ford tri-fold tonneau cover needed to be replaced... backup sensors in the bumper and the backup camera in the tailgate also. It doesn't take long for the $$$ to add up.

There were discussions about writing it off because they didn't think the frame could be straightened, then discussions about putting a new frame on it and having to move the cab, motor, axles, and power train over. Finally, they decided to try and straighten the frame as it wasn't as bad as they originally thought after they had the box off it.

They did a great job and as soon as I got it back, I tried to put the 5th wheel hitch in and it dropped in without a problem goodjob .

As they say... Built Ford Tough

All vehicle are should be built with crumple zone which deflect the damage away from the passenger area. So in a rear end shunt this damage is more hidden, front end is more visible because of the softer materials used. But lets face it regardless of how much damage which can be repaired at a cost, the main issue is the safety of the occupants and hopefully they can walk away and survey the damage and thank their lucky stars to be survivors.

Have had my 2000 in my signature for almost 11 years now. Got it as a graduation present to myself (maybe from my wife too) for finishing grad school. The truck only has 107k on it. I've had it modified (chip, programmer) for power since 2002. So it's holding up well even with 3 kids riding in the back seat using the floor as a garbage can.

I have a 2009 F250 CC SB. It came with the camper package which apparently is another spring for a slide in camper. No problem with the hitch weight from my 31TS. Really like the truck. Truck and Trailer brakes work well. MPG ranges from 9.2 to 10 when I run between 60 and 65 depending on hills/wind. Without the 5er I can get 21 if I am a little easy on the petal and 19 at the speed limit.

What I hate is the "Cleaning Exhaust" message that kills the MPGs while it cycles through the process to clean the DPF. I have a friend with a 2010 and his rarely displays the message - I think that Ford stopped displaying it so often to make you feel better, or to reduce the grips from the 08 and 09 owners about this.

2001 F-350 DRW Four door cab long bed 7.3 power stroke average fuel mileage has always been around 18 with no trailer with old Four Winds Fiver only got about 13.5 but with the wildcat it gets around 14.5 I'm happy about that.
Before the 2001 I had a 1995 F-350 DRW extended cab with 460 gasser about 14 mpg no trailer with trailer dropped to about 8-9 mpg ouch affraid And before that had a 1977 F-150 that is what I started with pulling the Four Winds had the 400 gasser gutless with only 185 hp had to drop down to second gear to get up even smallest mountains and mileage stayed at 14 mpg wether pulling or not and no after market parts to put on it to improve it . Had that truck for over 22 years and not 1 thing ever died on it. Only it got to around 245000 miles and I decided time for a new one. Was a good old truck treated really bad but she just kept going. Now I also have a little Ford Ranger Pickup that I drive daily to work It has the 4 liter V6 and gets around 28 Mpg and tows my Yard trailer to where ever I want to has plenty of power for that and I'll keep it untill it dies Ford so as you can see I'm a Ford man and I wouldn't have it any other way Oh by the way did have one Chevy and it lasted only a few years before it started to nickel and dime me for about a year before I sold it. Oh before I forget have a 46 Ford PU in my shop and I plan to restore it. But for now it is going to have to wait till I have more time to work on it. AwwMan

2togo..I have an 08 (Job 1), and I never had a a message when mine went into regen. On the other hand, mine had "issues" with going into or staying in regen mode when I pulled into my driveway or parking at work. During my last oil change, I had the dealer load the latest PCM update. This flashes the Cleaning Exhaust message briefly (and I do mean briefly) across the screen. Regen only last a few minutes (if you're going highway speed), and will kick out of regen mode when you put the tranny in park. It will also pick up again if it still needed further cleaning. Overall a good update. But the dealer can be a little persnickety about doing it.

Have had numerous Fords, including a 2005 6.0 F-250 Lariet and present 2011 F-250 6.7 PSD King Ranch. '05 did a fantastic job hauling our WC all over the country. The '11 does everything the '05 did only with more ease. Happy getting the King Ranch and the added luxury. We love our truck!

EdJunior, thanks for the update on your truck. It think your message duration is about the same duration as my friends '10. I think mine stays on the entire time the regen is in progress. The time the message stays on is just about what the manual states as the time it takes. Mine also will start back up if not finished. I think about 15 to 20 minutes is the max it has taken and usually 5 to 10. I guess what bugs me is that when it is on I know my MPG is heading south.

We are pretty much a ford family currently. The F250, a Mercury Mariner - guess that will be a collectors item soon, and a 64 F100 with the last year they put in the 292 V8. Ford

By the way when my dad owned it he towed a Goldcoast 30ft fifth wheel with it and my brother had to redo all of the holes and mods my dad had on it he has brought it almost back to Orignal specs including the paint job. although he did put on front disc brakes and a four barrell carb and electric ignition and changed the rear axel gears from 3.50 to 3.00 for better milage on the 352 w/stick. He loves his ford.

Beautiful truck.

If you need to rebuild the 352, let me know, and I could help you with information. I have been rebuilding FE engines since the early 60's. A 390 or 428 is the exact same outside dimensions, and a quick way to increase hp and fuel economy.

Have also been rebuilding them for years had a 65.5 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT with the HiPerformance 390 at a stock 333 hp WoW could that car move and as long as you kept your foot out of it got great gas milage. Also helped a buddy of mine put the FORD 427 into a 65 Mustang fastback it had all of the Performance with the Roller cam and Trantula Dual carb Manifold and Hole SHot 2000 RPM stall tork converter That car could get air. Still I have some Parts in My shop from a 65 390, 70's 360 and a C6 tranny out of a police Cruzer needs a rebuild but should work fine has the cast Iron Tailpiece so it is beefy don't think I want to put any thing that big in my 46 though because I want to find a 5liter from a linclon with all the computer componets and tranny that way it will run down the freeway real nice.

We have a 2009 Ford F-350 Crew Cab, 6.8 litre V-10 and Long Box.
Love the truck and seriously the only complaint i have after owning it for 1 1/2 years is the gas mileage. (I knew it would be lousy from the beginning so i am really not losing any sleep over it just $$$ for gas) We had a Chevrolet 1/2 ton before this truck which i liked but would not haul the Cat and for us i think they all have their pros and cons. Just my opinon, but i do love my Ford Truck. Haven't owned a Dodge truck so i can't comment on them. Mark
