Bought a 2011 Dodge Laramie 3500 4x4 CC LB

Beautiful truck, all the creature comforts available.

But haven't pulled with it yet.

2006 Dodge Ram Big Horn Edition. Amazing power out of a 5.9L I6. They've come along way from the old power wagons.

2007 dodge 4x4 3500 dually, crew cab, 8ft bed, 5.9 ctd, auto. Had ford f350 4x4 v10 auto Dodge runs circles around ford. Doesn't stop at every fuel stop, like the v10. I like the ford cab better, but can't get it with cummins.

Here are some pics. The pics of the trucks aren't mine, mine are projects so those pics wouldn't be worth showing. But these will at least let you see what they are.

The car pics are real pics of my Coronet. Sorry they're old scanned pics so they suck but you'll see the old gurl. Don't mind the freash mud on the floors. lol!

Love my Cummins engine, dont really like the Dodge that is wrapped around it. I have the Edge Juice w/ attitude monitor and that is about it. I am going to upgrade at least the TQ and VB in the trans before towing the fiver with it.

Heres what it has been towing till now

There is tons of information on this site

http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/

I have gotten tons of advise and help from these folks. It is a great community.

I don't have a 3rd gen, but getting gauges most of the time will be the #1 recommendation. If you are looking for power and mileage, a smarty programmer is usually a good purchase.

Our 2003 has served us well. We like the low end torque of the Cummins that you don't have to spin to make it work. We go over mountain passes almost every camping trip and the exhaust brake make going down the hills as easy as climbing them!

I agree with you. The cab for the Ford CC is far and above anybody else's cab. They just need the cummings. There is an after market kit to put one in but will CA except it and you lose the braking in the tranny.

We have only towed our fiver a couple times with our 2007 dodge megacab diesel 6 speed transmission 6.7 cummins. Great acceleration under heavy load. Jake brake a must. don't like that the transmission is a lil jumpy when down shifting under a heavy load. Should have a lil more on the braking. We run heavy on the electric trailer brakes to compensate. of course on all new diesels the regeneration of the dpf is a pain. Kills fuel milage and requires you to take it out on a long run after several short runs. You will know when to take a long ride when the fuel milage drops. All in all though, pretty happy with it.

How often does yours go into regen?

I have 4000 miles on mine and as far as I know, I havent done a regen yet. Dealer tells me it happens once every 20,000 or so miles.

Re: Dodge TV

Post by fufe on 4/19/2011, 3:30 pm

no it regenerates more than that. The problem comes with making short runs. Then when it starts to do the regeneration it doesn't complete it on the short run. When this happens you have to take it for a 45 min to an hour ride to run her hard and blow her out. You will know when it hasn't regenerated completely, the needle on your fuel gauge will drop the next time you take it out and you will get a burnt plastic smell throughout the truck. It has been my experience that it's not how many miles you go it's how long the duration of the trip is. We went looking at new 2011 dodge diesels a few months ago and now they have a gauge inside that tells you when you are regenerating... if you reach your destination they say you shouldn't turn the motor off.(this was the diesel mechanic that we talked to.)( it's just not dodge,it's ALL the new diesels).you have to keep riding until it gets finished. If you don't it builds carbon on the blades of the turbo. We weren't really happy with that. You may want to do some research of your own and see if they tell you the same thing they told us.

Sorry Sean for posting and not answering your original question in the process....We have only towed the 5th wheel with the Dodge we have now, so we do not have anything else to compare it to...BUT - I will say, the ease in which the diesel passes the gas TVs on the hilly/mountain terrain is nice. It tows like a dream and doesn't drive like it's under a heavy load when towing. My husband LOVES this truck. I cannot think of anything negative to say about it.

It's worth noting though...one of the main reasons we went with a Dodge Diesel vs another brand is the fact the Dodge is the only one that fit in our garage. The others were 4 inches longer so we didn't even consider them after learning this fact. Our truck has the 6.5 foot bed, slider hitch and with the rounded nose on the Wildcat - we haven't had to use the slider....yet.

Hope this answered your original post!

Thanks Philip, it's actually Patriot Blue but it's just as much work to keep clean as the black.
The WC does look a bit small back there but you should have seen the previous TT, a 22' Aljo by Skyline. It was almost silly looking because it was so small.
