Lippert & Forest River Service

Post by Woodrome on 1/6/2011, 3:58 pm

Well, we have been problems with out 31TS since we bought it Nov. 2008. The bedroom slide creeps in by itself. There has never been any pattern to when it would slide in...in the middle of the night, right after it's slide out, 2 weeks later...ect. Angelina RV in Lufkin, TX has been wonderful about getting us into the shop, and after several trips to the shop and changing out the entire hydrolic system. It is still sliding in. We contacted Rod Batts at Forest River and he put us in contact with Pamela VanderMel. They recommened we replace the entire bedroom slide frame. On that trip to the shop we blew out 2 tires (one going, and coming home) and the problem was still not fixed. I emailed Rod Batts and told him I was not pulling this b&#^*% back to the shop. Lippert sent there area troubleshooter to our home. Paul Davis from Fort Worth came to our house 7 times to work it. He even called out Bud VanderMel from Indiana to come work on it. We thought it was fixed, but the day after Christmas we noticed it had slid in again. Pamela Vandermel contacted me today and said they where going to pay 2 months of our payments and going to send out another tech from Indiana to work on it.

Lippert and Forest River have really worked and tired to fix our very odd problem. Lippert even sent us a care package at Christmas with slide slippers, hats, t-shirts, & water bottles.

But I must say that If they ever get it fixed, this trailer is gone. I'm tired of looking at it. Don't know if it's going to be another Forest River Product, but they have been working to help solve our problem, and for that they get a E for Effort.

I've got to ask. Is the slide being pulled in by the hydraulics, or are the hydraulics losing pressure and allowing the slide kinda just to move in?

It really sounds like like a bad cylinder, but I take it they replaced that.

Of course it could be a ghost in the machine Wink

It's like the Hydraulics is losing pressure and allowing the slide to drift back in. They have replaced the bedroom cylinder at least 5 times, the other cylinders twice and the pump twice and replumbed the check valves.

My wife has said from the beginning that it was haunted...lol

There is no sign of Hydraulic fluid anywhere? If it's leaking, there will be fluid, unless there is indeed a faulty check valve or pump.

With everything that's been replaced, sounds like there might be a pin hole in one of the Hydraulic lines in a hidden spot somewhere out of sight. Lots of luck.

I gonna place my bet on the check valves and a bad housing assembly.

Please keep us informed, because we all have hydraulics.

We stopped by our dealer yesterday, and he assured us that all the lines had been replaced. As for a hydraulic leak, it looks to me that after 2 years we should have found some oil somewhere.

I think that this could be caused by an internal leak inside the hydraulic ram, The ram could then slide in or out and the oil would just cycle inside the ram.

Sean, I was thinking that as well but Woodrome has said they were changed out at least 5 times, sounds like the only thing that has not been changed are the check valves and body assembly.
