The cost of Fuel hurts
Due to the latest increase in the price of fuel in the U.K. I have decided to keep a proper log of the fuel I am using. I found this Link, that will help you record your fuel usage and work out for you, your cost per mile when you have made a few entries in the log.

Re: The cost of Fuel hurts
I was thinking the same as fuel has creeped up here too. Maybe not as much as yours.
Our camping this summer will surely cost much more. I need to maximize the fuel economy on my truck.
Pretty soon, I'll have to get an electric car and camp in a tent again.

If I ever sat down and figured out how much it cost to camp...I wouldn't do it! Payments, fuel, camp ground fees, maintenance and storage fees all add up quickly.

Even though fuel prices are on the rise, and some say will be over $5 per gallon by the end of 2011, this might be the time for travel before fuel prices spike. If we lived in the East "Maryland" we would be traveling to Quartzsite Arizona where the temperatures are in the 70's, and no snow. Since we live on the left coast, the weather here is mild.

On the trip down to Cocoa Beach, FL we had to pay $3.48 a gallon for diesel some where around Daytona Beach area, but to keep rolling South it was worth it. Jim

Re: The cost of Fuel hurts
We'll just go on refueling and traveling with the Cat. Other alternatives would be:
Quit camping - not an option
Do only local camping - not an option either, but we might cut down on the long distance trips and go on more local outings
Travel in the car and stay in hotels - we stay at Hampton Inns, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, and other similar chains - Those usually run more than $100 per night. I think the last HI Ex we stayed at was around $120 and that was a couple years ago. The combination of hotel and gas, compared with campground and diesel, would probably be in favor of campgrounds.
Travel in the truck and stay in hotels - would be more expensive than taking the car. We anticipate a trip this way though when our son and dil finally find the perfect house. Then we'll drive out and stay with them a few weeks while I make window treatments.
As the price of gas goes up, so do hotel and restaurant prices.
Fly - not an option. Both of my ears were damaged while flying in 2002, with a little hearing loss in each. The right ear has the most hearing loss.... or the most noticeable. I can't take a chance on losing my hearing altogether.
So, we'll take the Cat and try not to think about the cost of diesel. Remember when diesel cost less than regular?

When we went to Yellowstone gas prices were in the $4.00 a gallon range
.We are not well off by no means,And let me tell you that stung. But we had been planing that trip for a while and just bit the bullet. We will be exploring campgrounds a little closer to home this year.
