Extended Service Plan or Not To Extended Service Plan. That is the Question?

Post by 10-36 on 12/30/2010, 5:08 pm

I recently purchased a 2004 Wildcat 29BHBP. It seems to be in really good condition. It even still has the new RV smell and looks brand new inside. I'm considering buying an extended service plan; Good Sam Club, Easy Care etc.

Does anyone have any feedback or thoughts on these plans?

I would think the extended service plan would depend greatly on how comfortable you are with making your own repairs. Since I'm the guy who will always have something else go terribly wrong if I try to make a repair or alteration, I opted for extended service. You will find plenty of opinions on the Good Sam, Easy Care, etc. Most of what I have read has been positive, but there are a few exceptions, as there will be when discussing any service plan. i.e. Ford vs Chev vs Dodge. There are good and bad in all of them. As has been mentioned in another thread, the Good Sam etc service will depend on the local service where you have problems. I have heard that GS etc try very hard to only sign up reputable service providers, but even then it will depend on the particular person working for that service provider. So many variables to consider. I don't have any yet, but I am looking at Good Sam as my first choice. Will make a decision before spring for sure.

The way I look at it on extended service plans is, if a major appliance such as refrigerator or a/c goes bad and needs replaced it would pay for itself and being 6 years old you never know. That's why i would get it. I do most of the repairs myself but not on the major buck things.
