Good bots get sent from sites like google and yahoo and they scan a site and report back to the server that it was sent from so when you type a name into the search engine it pulls it up faster for you.
Bad bots like from hackers deliver viruses and plant them on websites or they can just send out stupid stuff or they can come creeping in and you wouldn't even know they were there.
There's a bizillion variations of them from good to bad. That's the best case in a nut shell way to explain them cause they're way more in depth than that
