New Truck

Post by schrowang on 12/10/2010, 8:24 am

Just got back from the Ram dealership where I purchased a 2010 Ram 2500 6.7L CTD, std tranny, 3.73 diffy, etc., etc.

Like Tom, I could not walk away from the deal that they offered me for my 04.5 Ram 2500 5.9 CTD.

Except for the 6.7L engine the trucks are basically carbon copies of each other. It was very, very sweet.

Congratulations Mike..... cheers

Now, my question is, do you have your hitch in it yet?

How tall is the back end?

Do you have any issues with hooking up your CAT?

I dont have a hitch yet, still waiting. Did spend the last 2 days plumbing in my tool box/tank combo. All that is left is to fins some electricity for the pump. Any sugestions as to whee to fins some power under the dash?

Tom, don't hack your dash wiring. Run your power wire out the firewall (there's a rubber grommet) and use a fuse tap in the TIPM (fuse panel) on the drivers side inner fender.

Earl,

You know, I can wire a house, add breakers to a live panel, sweat pipes, soldier wires, use almost any power tool, but when it comes to wiring in an auto fuse panel, im at a total loss.

I've seen the taps before, but what fuse do I stick it too? this pump has a 15 amp fuse of its own, so do I use an existing 15 amp fuse?

Can I wire it up a blank fuse slot? Are unused slots powered?

Tom,
I don't know much about the 08 and newer Dodges. My 07 has spare fuse openings but aren't powered. If you use a relay for the pump than you could use a fuse tap with a smaller amp fuse and put less stress on the system. The relay wouldn't draw but a amp or so. If you're a member of TDR, some of those guys could give you better help with the late model truck. When I added my air springs, I added this aux fuse panel. When I install my exhaust brake, I'll have a place to get switched power for it too or any other add on. They offer other aux fuse panels as well. To see all the painless wiring kits go here http://www.genosgarage.com/products.asp?dept=6. That's just what I did.

Your truck may have power to the spare fuses or a place to wire accessories since it's the latest and a 3500.

BTW, sometime down the road I'll be adding a toolbox aux fuel tank combo to my truck. Going to go with the Transfer Flow. I'm planning a Aug-2012 3 week trip to some places out west including Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mount Rushmore and etc. Don't need to be stopping for fuel all the time. But for right now the $1300.00 exhaust brake is enough spending. Aux fuel tank will come later.

Tom,

Before you try and tap the existing fuse panel, I'd suggest running a hot lead from the + side of the battery to one of those expansion fuse panels (6 fuses) and then run your hot wiring to the pump. You can then use some of the other slots for other non-standard applications and still be fuse protected.

Tom,

I'm pulling the hitch rails tomorrow, along with the XM Radio. The new Ram is no taller than the 04.5 so I'm not anticipating any problems there. I'm going to have to check the fit of the Stromberg 5th wheel hitch tailgate to see if it will fit the new truck. If not, I'll have to get a new one.

Haven't got it yet. Arrives at the dealer from CT on Tuesday for prep and I should have it on Wednesday. I will post pix if the weather here holds.

Had the new truck into the Rhino guy for Rhino lining in the bed and nerf bars under the doors. Job is done and I'm waiting for a cloudy day tomorrow to take the pix. Gotta do it before the snow falls. We're expecting upwards of 18" here starting late tomorrow afternoon.
