Big Foot Truck....

Post by Admin on 11/30/2010, 3:07 pm

It was slow one evening , I was caught up in the Lab so I jumped on one of the 100 ton haul trucks and had my little flip video camera with me. Take a ride in a Real truck. I'd love to have the big Cat engine in my F350. The loader that you see is as big as the truck or just a tad bit larger than the truck, its Huge. The coal mine's use larger equipment than what we have. A 100 ton truck gets your attention pretty easy I couldn't imagine a 200 ton truck like they use in the larger strip mines.
When your viewing the Pit, each ledge is 100ft. they look small in the video but if you fell off of one your instant pie.

I worked for LeTourneau for 3 years when I first moved to Texas. They have the patent for the GM Titan like the Cat truck you have. It's really amazing to watch that truck being made from scratch. LeTourneau has their own steel mill, so almost everything structural was manufactured at that plant. They had a Cat engine that ran a huge generator that powered electric motors that powered the wheels. They had a way of shutting down the Cat engine going down grade and the electric motors would act like generators and power everything on the truck. Was supposed to be a huge savings in fuel cost. LeTourneau even manufactured their own electric motors. From watching a steel billet being poured to watching the finished truck roll out the door really is impressive. And you can get a nose bleed from climbing up to the cab. lol!
