Tallulah Gorge, workout on the steps

Post by Admin on 11/21/2010, 9:49 pm

The Gorge is at the bottom of the mountain from my moms house. I had to take some stuff up to the house this weekend and I can't pass the Gorge without wanting to run down the steps to the bottom. Now running back up is a whole nother story. We used to hike the river floor before they closed it off and there were no steps. Now you have to get a permit to get off the steps and hike farther down to another waterfall. To many people were getting killed playing on the other waterfalls.

Heres what it looks like when they release the water for the Kayakers once or twice a year. You have to have another permit just to go down and its just for the kayakers.

I pass by that area a couple of times a year on my way to Canton, NC. I'd love to have the time to explore that area, but I have a work crew with me and it's long drive from Longview, TX. Maybe one day the DW and I will venture that far out with the Cat. From what little I could see from the highway, it should be awesome in the fall.
