Screen Door Accessories

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 11/18/2010, 11:56 am

We finally got around to doing a couple mods that a lot of other trailer owners have done.

At the top of the picture is a Camco Screen Door Cross Bar. It makes it much easier to close the screen door. It's something to get ahold of that is within easy reach.
Near the middle/right side, is a Camco Screen Door opener. Just pull up on the little black lever to unlatch the door - without having to open that slider thing.
Both were easy to install.

As always, NICE JOB!!!

Is there enough room to get your fingers around that grab bar? The one I put on our Wildcat was so close your fingers touched the screen when I grabbed it.

Sweet! I've bought the same handle but have yet to install it. Can't make up my mind where to install it on the door. Looks like where you mounted yours is about where I was thinking.

Tom,
Scruffy and I don't have any trouble getting our fingers around the grab bar. Maybe you have fat fingers. Laughing We have ours over the screen, a little higher than the center panel. Scruffy says that if you put it over the center panel, that might make the space narrower.

Earl,
After Scruffy got the handle up, I thought it should go down a bit because it blocks the view a little. But, if putting it down lower would make it narrower, then I'm glad Scruffy put it where he did. Someone make a clear sliding unit for that center section, that would make the view much better.

What is involved with the install? I am so tired of trying to piece that sliding thing back together because people seem to think it is a handle.

Installing the bar was easy. The bar is adjustable by sliding it wider or narrower - like a curtain rod. The manufacturer might have provided a template for the screw holes, but Scruffy just held the bar where he wanted it and marked it with a pencil. Then he predrilled the holes. Put the bar in place again, and put in the screws. So easy, I could have done it - if he would have allowed me to use his power tools. Wink

One note about the grab bar install!!
I used a level to install mine to make it look "perfect".......
However, the camper wasn't level Suspect
its enough to notice if you look real hard, but not enough to care.... scratch Wink

We have that exact handle on ours and i love it. You can get a good hold on it too. I also have the clear slider on my door and love it too, bought it at CW. I have also placed lexan in my door so i can open the main door in cool or warm weather so I can look out. I removed door and then pushed the lexan in the little slot that is in the door.

Works great. Easy to install. has one draw back. Will bend the screen door. Had to break my wife of the habit of pushing down and/or opening the screen and leaning on the bar. Does been the door.

I was at Eastern Marine today, and low and behold, they had this bar for $12.95.

Guess what I have to install now?

Thanks Tater.
