Bulging Freshwater Tank

Post by KJM on 11/18/2010, 3:14 am

A couple weeks ago I noticed the freshwater tank was bulging in the middle. It bulged enough that it pushed the underbelly cover down and tore through one of the mounting screws. Anybody else have this issue. I'm concerned that it will eventually bust. Should I be concerned? If so, where should I start looking for replacements? Thanks.

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to get under there and add some supports as long as it isn't leaking. From what I can see mine has no strapping underneath it.

Check for a wear hole along the top of the tank where the hanger bracket fits against the tank. I had the same problem with my water tank, and it had worn a hole which had to be repaired. We then improved the hanger and added better straps. So far, so good.

I had the exact same problem once I checked I found all the tanks were sagging in the center, I was told that Forest River may have switched tanks and that they were not as sturdy. My dealer called Forest River, I had to send pictures of the sagging tanks. They were repaired under warranty. I had two concerns, The tanks failing and not being able to empty the tanks completely, especially the Fresh Water which could cause stagnated water. Forest River authorized my dealer to install additional supports. No problems with the tanks since.

I have yet to address mine. Also my gray water tank is sagging and pushing down on the underbelly as well. Maybe this spring I'll get to it. I'll probably support all 4 tanks.

For those of you with the dreaded "Bulge"......double check to make sure that the water tank has been installed and has ALL of the bolts installed in the cross members into the frame......

I had a bulge once, and that turned out to be from TWO bolts that were NOT installed in the cross member that holds the tank. Needless to say, the outcome was not desireable, and it could have been a whole lot worse!
