LCD tv removed for winter?
Does anyone remove the LCD tv for winter? I have been bringing the tv in the house for the winter. Didn't know if it would freeze and be damaged by the cold.

Wow what an interesting thought, I will have to wait for response from other forum members before I bring my LCD tv's in as I am hoping to leave them in the Cat permanently.

I always take both of my LCD's out of the Wildcat and bring them to our stick and brick house for the winter.
I just don't want to take a chance that they might suffer damage during extreme freezing temperature. If we have a nasty winter it wouldn't be unusual for the temperautes to drop below 0 degrees fahrenheit.

Duke,
If you live in an area where freezing temps are expected, I would advise you to store you LCD tv's in the house for the winter. LCD (liquid crystal devices) are just that, liquid, and will freeze just like most other liquids. It will ruin your day to turn them on in the spring and get no picture.

Good find. All the manufacturers he contacted specify that the TVs should not be stored in temperatures lower than -20*C, -4*F. If you're in an area where the temp drops below 0*F, I would definitely bring them in the stick house.

Re: LCD tv removed for winter?
I've always left mine in. I've read where as long as you warm it up before you use it, it SHOULD be ok.

I take mine out as well. If you want to know for sure, check the specs in the owners manual. It'll tell you operating and storage temps allowed.

A couple of the manufacturers on that link said that you need to make sure the TV internal temperature is above 32*F before you use it.

Last winter we bought a new big screen TV for the family room and when it was delivered they told us not to turn it on for at least an hour so the set could warm up.

Thanks everyone for all the input! I guess I'll continue bringing mine in the house, just to be safe.

Been discussed on RV.net several times. Conclusion seem to be that they can take freezing weather fine as long as they're not turned on at those temps.

That sounds interesting. I would think something like this might be the case. People can't always remove the TV, like from a motorhome that is built in.

I leave mine in the trailer... on purpose. Our WC came with a 17" LCD.. Blegh!
Never has broken my TV. Only gets down to 5F or so minimum in the winter, but by Jan we sustain under freezing temps for a month or so.
I just can't bring myself to replace a 12v LCD with a 120V unless I have no choice.
