Rear View Camara Installed

Rear View Camara Installed
Well the project is complete. Rear view camara installed and the only holes drilled were to install the 7-pin adapters on the truck and trailer. The truck and trailer have a quick connect so when we park just unplug the cable and your good to go. The monitor in the cab sits in the ashtray (which is never used) on the mounting bracket that came with the unit. A small bungee strap holds it in place and when not in use it can be tucked away in the console. All the wiring is under the cupholder neatly tied up so NO exposed wiring. Power is supplied by tapping into the cigarette lighter. All the cables are zip tied under the truck and trailer frame and the good thing is if I ever sell the truck or trailer everything came come out easily. A lot of people asked, "Why is the camara under the trailer instead of on the back"? Answer is: When I triple tow I want to see the wheels of the boat trailer. Looking down at them I cannot tell if I have a blowout due to the fenders over the wheels. By looking at the tires I can see if I blow one out and pull over quickly. The camara also has sound so I can hear if anything goes wrong.

Of the camera mount please? I'm trully impressed by some of the mods made by the members here. Some of you could probably do well if you opened a mod shop at your home. If you and your wife/family worked it together, you could name it.... The Mod Squad.
Yeah, I know..... really bad, but I couldn't help myself.

Rear View Camara Mount
I am having a horrible time trying to get the pictures to show up. I hope the original post had pictures to see. If this one comes out it shows the bracket and mounting plate that came with the monitor installed in the ashtray. When the ashtray is fully opened the mounting plate sits perfectly on top and slides in just a bit so it doesn't wobble. A small bugee cord goes around the plate and everything holds nicely. If you notice the monitor can be adjusted in any direction (up,down, left, right). When not triple towing the unit can be used to watch movies by plugging in a cable in the back.

Nice job!
We'd like to have a rear-view camera - another project for the future.

I like the way that you mounted your monitor without having to drill/screw or stick, when you want to remove no visible marks great stuff.

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
I thought that the image downloaded, but I guess I was wrong. The camera is mounted under the hitch on the rear of the trailer. This way I can monitor the wheels on the boat trailer. I just want to make sure I arrive at my destination with all my toys in tact.

Excellent picture, thanks. That's some serious mounting hardware. Did it come with the kit or did you pick that up at Home Depot/Lowes/etc? Nice job for sure.

OMG I just noticed the floor. That's the cleanest shop/garage floor I've ever seen. Can't let the DW see this.

This is a great installation! I went to Costco and found the system but it does not have the quick disco. Do you know where I might find that. Thanks

I am assuming you drop the covering under the trailer to zip tie the wires. Great job. Clean and neat.

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
rearviewsafety.com has the quick connects and everything is tucked underneath the black poly with zip ties. Works perfectly.

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
mountainmaxx, I have been looking into a setup like that for some time. I have had a blowout on the fifth wheel while towing the boat behind and only knew it happened because I was looking in my mirror at the right time to see it go. Would it be possible for you to post a picture of the screen when you are hooked up with the boat?

Will do but its going to be a couple of months. Trailer lives in a garage behind the other toys and first trip is a couple of months away.

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
Another great idea for sure. I like the plugs. I have a rear camera as well and I mounted mine up on the ladder to get a higher view. I used a 4-pin utility trailer plug as a connector to the truck being the camera only needs four wires. My monitor is a double-din Kenwood head unit I have installed in my truck. I like your idea for the plugs because its nice and clean and tody loooking. With mine, I have the wire tucked away up in the pin box and pull it out and plug it in to the truck connection.

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
I am not sure I understand the question, but I will try to answer the best I can.
I drilled a hole in the bumper of the truck and mounted the adapter in the spot. Then ran the wire along the frame following what appears to be the electrical wires going to the rear lights. Then when I got to the front of the truck I found a gommet and inserted the cable thru and it came out underneath the steering wheel. I then worked it thru to underneath the center console and mounted the box there. I don't know if I went outside and looked for the wires that I would find them. Everything is concelled and hidden. I guess if I ever sell my truck it goes with it. Hope that helps.

Did you find the grommet to pass the wire through from inside the engine compartment or looking under the steering wheel?

Re: Rear View Camara Installed
My camera kit should get here today. I ordered the same kit but with two cameras. Going to mount one under like Mountainmaxx and the second on the ladder. It will be nice to be able to see what is going on back there.
Thanks for all the info!!!!!
