Wheel Chocks

Post by Frank on 11/5/2010, 6:28 am

This has been talked about before. What type of Wheel Chock is everybody using now.
I have been using the Bal Wheel Chocks. After I install them and set up the rest of the 5th wheel I find that the wheel chocks are lose. Then I have to craw under the slide and tighten it back tight. The other side is no problem to get to. These type don't seem to stop the shakes. Will these X-Chock stop the shakes Question Can they be installed with the tighten nut on the bottom Question

I have the X-Chock similar to those you showed. They don't stop the shakes, but they do help. I've never had to tighten mine once set.

I now use my mechanical hand brake with my stabilizers, and I find that there is hardly any movement in the Cat now.

I was using the same chocks you are now Frank and switched to the X-Chocks.While it doesn't stop the shaking completely,It does help a bit.I have put them in nut side up or down and they worked fine both ways.

I use the X-Chock as well since there isn't much room between the tires. I find they work real well.

I use Rotochoks and depending how much you lower or raise the front of the trailer after they're installed they need retighten. Also if you install them with hot tires they tend to need another notch once they cool down. So I check them for tightness a couple times during the whole setup process.

We use the X-style chocks. Just cheap yellow plastic ones. Not real X chocks. They do however make a difference for us. We set them after the front to back is level. They don't get loose. We also use ground chocks as we lost the trailer one time. Another story last spring.
They take less than a minute to set but don't always use them for an overnight stay.

We have been using the x chocks for a while now and really like them. We use them with the adjusting nut pointing down due to clearence problems at the top of the wheel. I have all but quit using the tripod since we began using the x chocks. Simple to use and the wife puts them in place while I do other things. Camping World has them on sale from time to time. Note they sell them in pairs and as singles. Sale is usually on the pair.
