retract a slide, no power
I was wondering how I would retract my slide if I lost hydraulics. I understand I can move the slide in if the pump is working and I use an electric drill to work the pump. What if the pump is bad, or I have a hydraulic problem. How would I get the slide back in, and have it stay in so I could get the trailer to a dealer for repairs? Any thoughts? I don't have this problem, I was thinking this could happen while I out on a trip.

Unhook hoses from the cylinder, get 20 people and push slide in. Than lock it in with lock bars or use rope through side windows or straps around the whole trailer. Put hoses back on cylinder and limp her home or to the service bay.

Earl, is that from experience? I've had this question too. Thankfully I haven't had to answer it yet!! Good to know though!

WOW, that sounds serious. Do the electric slides have a manual backup, like a hand crank? If they do maybe it would be better to have electric slides.

My old 5er had electric slides with a back-up hand crank. Never had to use it, but felt good knowing it was there. Hopefully I never have to find out how heavy the slides are on the 'Cat!

On 2 of my slides there is a rack and pinon on each side of the slide, I would try to energize the solenoid valve an try to wind in using the rack and pinion. the bedroom slide just has 1 central ram which is under the false floor of the bed, with this one, again i would try to energize the valve and use a ratchet strap to pull the bedroom slide in. I am not really sure if the valves are energized on the slides going in or out, but you should soon find out with the tension that you are going to put on the slides.
I hope this give people another idea on how it might be possible to retract slides with no pump.

Thanks everyone. I sure hope I never have to find out, especially in some remote location.

I had a mechanical slide on my last TT. The crank works only if the motor goes out. If the gearbox explodes, the crank is useless. Yup...it happened to me.

Yes but not on a RV system. But have had to get other hyd systems moved or changed with a bad pump. By unhooking the hoses at the cylinder you lessen the force required to push the fluid on the one side of the cylinder and pull air on the other side as the cylinder closes. Also you can't push against a pump and or valves. Also every foot of hose adds that much more effort to move the fluid to get the slide in. No idea how many people it would take to push it in. I hope I never have a pump failure to find out.

Hey guys, I'm new to the hydraulic slides and I was wondering how to get the slide back in if the pump went out or some other problem occurred. Thanks for the help! I ,also ,am hoping I don't ever have to deal with this problem!
