Interior Rope Lights

Post by schrowang on 10/26/2010, 11:05 am

On the 29RLBS we have two sets of interior OEM rope lights. One set is above the overhead cabinets next to the sink and the other is located above the kickboard under the three drawers in the kitchen. We rarely use the ones in the bedroom (just when the DW is asleep and I'm changing into my PJ's), but the ones in the kitchen make a really nice night light.

Problem is the set in the kitchen has half the lights now burned out. I would like to replace them.

Question is are they 12VDC or 120VAC?

Where the heck would I buy a string? I've looked in C'World and other distributors but couldn't find anything.

I need some help here.

Thanks to all.

They are 12v. Sorry, that's the only question I can answer...

Home Depot here in Canada carries the 115 volt string lights for stairs which is the same as our under counter strings, only difference is ours are 12 vdc, you could hook up a set of 115 v to a switch.

I got some 12v rope lights from SuperbrightLEDs.com. They let you order in custom lengths and different colors.

Wonder why LED's are out? Should last forever; have to go look at mine.

I wonder if all of the lights would go out if one was loose - probably. Otherwise, I'd say maybe they aren't burned out - maybe some worked loose with all the bouncing a trailer does.

We don't use the ones upstairs, but we DO use the ones downstairs every night as a nightlight.

Scott and Grace - did you get good service from SuperBright?

All the rope lights I've looked at have been wired parallel and should not all go out if one does. Doesn't mean there are not some wired in series though.

Hey Tater, we've been very happy with the LED's from them. I've heard that some suppliers sell cheap lights that fail quickly but none of our LEDs replacement lights have gone bad although I did have one single incan bulb in the rope light I use to light our steps go out. I have another string inside the TT thats about 12' long that has held up great.

Some LEDs are not good with a higher voltage than 12 volt some that have a built in resister can go as high as 30 volts,.

Our upstairs lights are in the space above the cabinets on the curb side. Maybe Wildcat made the 29rlbs and 30rlbs-west differently.

Here is a photo:

We never use them, in fact, we forget they are there. Maybe I'll start using them on our next trip - just so Wildcat's efforts don't go to waste. Laughing

We have 2 doors and no space above. 29rlbs has one change in it that is very nice. The way the TV cab is designed is far superior to the 30rlbs. In the 30 they went stupid.
