grumble grumble.... capture plate... grumble grumble

Post by BobnPi on 10/25/2010, 6:08 am

Well, I was going to post some pics with this post but can't find the cable to my camera. I'll post pics later if I can.

Last weekend we drove 4 hours up to a nice little campground recommended to me by Brad from Ashdown, AR. When we were driving around the grounds looking for a site that suited us, I noticed my capture plate had turned about 45° on the fifth wheel. Something was obviously broken, so we drove 4 hours back to the dealer. They had to take part of the 5th wheel off just to get unhooked from my TV. I haven't been happy with the way the capture plate was installed from the beginning, but it seems to be the only way to make it work with the pin box that came on my 31TS. I just got a call from their service dept telling me it's ready to go and he had installed a few more bolts in the capture plate-to-pin box to keep it in place. We may try to go again this coming weekend to try it out. Hitch is 15K Pullrite Superglide. I'm not exactly a happy camper... backoff

Hi BobnPi, I was wondering if you need a pullrite super glide with your truck,\. I have a 2500 GMC (2002 crew shortbed) and so far have never had to use my slider with my 2009 29rlbs. I would think the distance to to the cab is the same as my truck and trailer. We have towed ours over 15,000 and so far so good. Knock on wood.
Just a thought. Good luck.

Thanks, but I think one in the bed is enough. Laughing

Steve, I notice you have a Fifth Airborne pin box. That is probably the difference. I don't know what came on my cat, but I'm seriously considering putting a Fifth A. on mine.

The worse thing about my Superglide is the fact you can not be more than maximum of 16% out of line. When I have had no option to unhitch at a bigger angle I just pull the 2 pins ether side of the capture plate and use the landing legs to lift it clear of the truck.
I suggest you try this at least once, that way you'll know what to expect when you have no other option but remove the capture plate from the slide to unhitch. It is also quite heavy

Sean, that's what I had to do to get it off my truck for repair. Thanks for the heads up though.
