Winterizing The Hitch

Post by schrowang on 10/24/2010, 10:10 am

I've never seen a post on this forum about this topic, so I'll offer this.

When I remove the hitch (Husky 16K w/ slider) from the truck for the winter I partially disassenble the hitch by removing the pivot pin and removing the hitch plate and jaw mechanism from the base. This allows me access to the jaw mechanism for cleaning and regreasing. You wouldn't believe how dirty this can get during a seaon exposed to all kinds of weather and road grime. It also allows me to check the mechanism for full travel and any binding or broken parts. I grease everything is sight, reassemble the hitch and store it for the winter. It's ready to go in the spring.

Great Post !!! Couldn't agree with you more, I to tear mine down clean it, lube it, and put it back together. A little care goes a long way
