Good Sam Club
What's the story behind Good Sam Club? They've been stalking me for years to join and they have very little info about what and who they are. Nothing about what the club is, when founded, founded by who and etc. Is the Highway mag any good? If I do join that would be the main benefit to me since I camp in State Parks 99.9% of the time. Thanks for any info!

Re: Good Sam Club
If you just camp at state parks, there is no discount. At some camp grounds they do not give you discounts on holiday weekends. Yes the Highway is a good mag. but it's not great, but good. I have been a member for many years, and yet I have not been contacted by my local group. I have contacted the State, and also my local group and no one will get back to me. I have given up on them and may not re up my membership. You may need a larger mail box, you will be flooded by offers.
Sorry I had to blow off some steam.

Re: Good Sam Club
We are a Good Sam member. Mainly because we camp a couple of times a year at a CG that gives us the discount. It is about a wash with the savings paying for the membership. Last year we were KOA members too. Because we knew we would use the discount. I'm not sure we would continue memberships if we didn't use it.
It's not a lot of money but, in this era, people seem to read articles and get info online more than magazines.

Re: Good Sam Club
beartoo, I agree with you about the local clubs. I have talked with members and they all say they will get in touch with me about joining, but that's the last I hear from them. Seems like they are cliquish. We travel a lot so the membership discount pays for itself.

We stay in Good Sam parks enough that the cost of the card pays for itself.

We like the monthly magazine and we travel enough that the discount covers the cost of joining. We also use the online configurable trip planner.
I agree with talala that the local clubs seems cliquish.

We belonged for 4 years. Now we don't tow our WC outside in the winter, only to and from one place, so we dropped our membership. When we did belong our preference seemed to be Military RV, GS, Passport America. The local RV store, at least the only one I go to, offers a 10% discount for GS members.

I joined for the reading material plus, we use the membership a few times during the year and the savings pretty much pays for iteself.

The DW and I have belonged to GS since 1990. We've spent many nights in GS sponsored CGs and have benefited greatly from the 10% discount offered. We also belong to the KOA Value Card membership and get the 10% there too, plus additional off for each 5,000 or so points.
GS is now offering a digital online version of their house organ and we've signed up for that too. No more paper.
For us it's been a good value over the years. BTW we've never contacted the local group here in NH.

No, they haven't, but I'm not sure how GS's system works. Do the local chapters receive lists of those who have joined GS? Don't know and don't care. We have no interest in joining a local chapter.

Could you explain what this is please? Maybe I'm just a little dense this morning, but I really haven't a clue.

Re: Good Sam Club
Thanks for the info everybody! I'll try it out and see if the mag is worth the 19 bucks. I won't use the rest of the benefits since I stay in state parks.
