Winter battery removal & storage
Hi,
Quick question about removing the battery from my Wildcat over the winter. We are from WI, and want to remove the battery to store it in a warmer location than outside. Will the hydraulic landing gear hold without the battery being hooked up? I know it won't operate, but will it hold position? Thanks. I have gotten many answers from the forum, and enjoy reading the topics. I have already made some modification to my cabinets, from suggestions in the forum.

Hi Bill,
Yes indeed, you can remove the battery. Mine is in my basement right now. I also have a battery shutoff switch on the Wildcat that gets used when in storage.

Bill,
I gotta believe that NH winters are much like WI winters. That being said, I leave my battery in coach all winter. About every month I hook up the shoreside 120V cable and give the battery a 24hr charge. Works for me and it saves my 66 year old back.

Re: Winter battery removal & storage
I pulled the battery(ies) every winter while in ND. I had the Cat in storage and no way to keep a charge on them. If your cat is in storage, pull the batteries I made the mistake of not doing it once and only once. Now that the Cat is next to my house in SE Wa state the new Optima Battery will stay in the Cat with the Battery tender. I'm thinking that should be plenty good. Not expecting any -40 winter days out here!!!
Oh and as previously stated, Hydraulics will hold!

Battery removal
Thanks for the help. I will pull out tomorrow, and put on a battery tender in my garage.

Re: Winter battery removal & storage
I'm lucky enough to live in East Texas where the winters aren't all that harsh. Even if they were, I'd leave my battery in the cat while in storage. The owner of the storage facility had campers in mind when he designed his facility. There is a 120V recepticle in every space and he also has a dump station complete with water and air, all free of extra charge. Very handy.
