EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
Our WC is parked at our deer lease for the winter. I have recently discovered mouse droppings throughout the trailer. I have put out mouse poison but they are still there. They even chewed into a unopened spare box I had stashed under the sink!!!?? My husband says this is to be expected but I am just livid. While we are away the electricity is off otherwise I would be willing to give one of those pest thingys that plug into an outlet a try. Any suggestion for keeping them out or determining how they are getting in?

Where your parked is " IN the Mouse's Den " so to speak. So your husband is right. And the cat has so many ways to get in its crazy. Some of those industrial mouse houses you see laying around resturants would help outside. Setting poison inside is gonna leave a dead one in the wall at some point and stink like crazy. I'd do the house's inside as well with the set traps also. Something you can retrieve and not lose the mouse.
Some expanding foam, brillo pads etc to stuff in the big cracks.
Some smaller cats outside the Big Cat would help some.

I would go with Phillip's suggestion about traps, lots of them if you are not going to visit the Cat for a while.

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
Hmmm, the mouse's den? How about the mouse's bedroom. When you got a female mouse, you're gonna have a line up of male mice and before you know it, a growing family.
And the won't just inhabit the open spaces either. In my 2000 Trail Harbor they made their way up the reefer chase into the overhead. You think you're livid. You should have heard the DW when she heard the scratching of little paws in the ceiling. Looking back, I just wish I hadn't been there.
It is tough to get rid of the little guys, but it can be done. Spread plenty of traps in the open. You don't want them to die in the walls or ceiling (odor you know). I prefer the sticky kind that gets them and holds them. Also, spread mothballs around. Some say that is a good preventative. Remove the surrounds from the ceiling vents and put some up in the ceiling. Also put some in the reefer control area outside.
I killed 20 or so of the little buggers and then found a nest with mama and the wee little ones in the oven. That's when we traded for the Cat.
Hope this helps.

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
I've recently had limited problems with mice. Cat is next to our house, but we are the last house on the street and vacant lot next to the parking pad for the cat. I spread poison outside of the cat (because as others said having one die somwhere inside can be a smelly proposition). I've only used traps inside the cat with great sucess (peanut butter, not cheese)!! I also had a bottle of Liquid Fence laying around from a previous rabbit problem (they were eating my trees). Figuring I had nothing to lose I tried that all around the Cat. WORKED GREAT!!! Since I've been spraying I've trapped only 2 mice in the past 3 months. Prior to spraying I trapped around a dozen in a few weeks time.
Give this stuff a shot. Should be able to find it at a local nursery.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll be stocking up on traps. I also did some research on the web and found a product, Critter Out, that I am going to try. I'll keep you posted on the results.
dragynj, I looked into the liquidfence but I'm concerned since we are on a deer lease it might keep the deer away. Then my husband would be livid. lol

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
A family of 6 mice can multiply into a family of 60 mice in 3 months. Reaching sexual maturity at about four weeks of age, it’s easy to understand how a mouse population within a home can quickly grow out-of-hand. Not to mention the fact that they breed year-round. So each litter consist of 5-6 young that are able to reproduce at approximately 30 days of age. You do the math!!!!

Or maybe you can sneak around the edge of the connecting propertys and trap all the deer on your property with the liquid fence,,,,

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
We hosted a very nice family of mice last winter.
While winterizing last weekend I tried to figure out where they got in. Your WC may be similar.
Based on their "tracks" it seemed they entered thru a hole in the frame between the forward water tanks and the basement. Duct taped that one in a hurry.

That explained the messes in the basement, but I still had the inside to figure out. Looking up and to the leftside of the WC, still near the battery, I found another hole in the frame where the overhang starts. Some wires run up into the frame here, heading towards the bedroom...

Before these wires get to the bedroom they pass (inside the frame) thru the left propane tank storage compartment. At the point where they turn forward, there's another hole in the frame. I doubt mice would enter here, but bugs certainly could.

Finally the wires enter the inside from the left wall, next to the lower drawer by the bed. Some of the wires then go down into the floor, and I presume come up near the right side drawer. Duct taped all these places.

Hope this helps.

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
Traps and a barn cat do the trick for our trailer at our hunting club. It's an old construction trailer we used to get out of the wet weather, and it's full of openings. One of the guys in the club usually brings up a barn cat in the summer that lives under the trailer and controls the mouse population. Traps go inside to catch the ones that do make it inside.
One of the members decided to spread poison inside. Of course it worked and the trailer stunk till it got cleaned out. Poison outside can still lead to a smelly trailer. They'll eat it on the way in, and die inside the trailer. Traps are not the most pleasant thing to clean out, but it beats the smell of using poison.

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
I use "fleecy" brand dryer sheets. For some reason mice HATE them, I havn't had any rodents in our old trailer and I have placed them everywhere in our new one for the winter storage (and they make the trailer smell great when we open it) I have tried other brands, but the DON'T work just the fleecy ones. I haven't done a search to see what the difference is chemical wise. All of our friends that use them all have no issues either as well as our cottage friends. Just a thought... now with our fifth wheel I will have to do the front storage area and all the other compartments.

I would flea bomb WC when you leave or just before you come to stay for the season, Mice & fleas seem to go hand in hand.

Re: EEEKKKK!!!! Mice in WC!!!
We use dryer sheets and have for 10 years--- not one mouse. Our WC is parked next to the garage. We have a lot of trees, bushes and a swamp one house over. We put the sheets in a number of spaces in the basement. We havn't had to put any inside the WC yet. We also put two in the outside furnance vent. We make sure that any openings on the bottom where the pipes go into the basment are taped. We get a couple of mice in our house every year. Can't seem to stop them there.

Put some steel wool in your slide rails. If your slide is close to your tires they can climb the tires and in they go. Our slide rails are just hollow
