Shower door glass.

Shower door glass.
Question for all of you. Has anyone had to replace the shower door glass in their campers. I have the 32Q in the signature. Went to pic up the WC tonight when we noticed the shower panel closest to the vanity was shattered.
It is still intact, but ready to fall into a million pieces. Don't know what caused it??? It was fine before I parked it for the winter, but who nows.
It is about 13' wide and 60" tall. Haven't called the glass shop and can only imagine what FR would charge if they carried the panel. Just wondering if others have had broken shower doors and any possible remedies. TIA.
Mark

My brother works for a glass manufacturer in PA. He says that you should try a glass shop 1st should be able to help you out .
He also said labor will most likely be more than the cost of the glass to install so if your handy you might want to try the install yourself.
Home depot and lowes could also special order it for you acording to him.
Goodluck

Mark,
I had the same thing happen on my 05' 29RLBS. I took the frame with the broken panel to a local shower door glass shop and they were able to replace the broken panel. The one catch is that the original glass was textured and the new piece is not. It is no big deal as I shifted the panels around so the clear piece was next to the vanity and it adds a little more light to the bedroom.
I believe that the panel broke because of improper installation as many of the screws were not secure to the next panel or the wall itself.

By the way, the new panel was $60 and you have to buy the whole enclosure from FR for around $300

I had the shower door shatter on my 06. Forrest River replaced it under warranty. It seems that the screws pentrated the glass and produced a small crack, that with vibration shattered. Good Luck

Re: Shower door glass.
Thanks for the replies! I got the panel out last night and it looks like a screw may have been the culprit. It looked a little to close to the pane and with vibration and a little coach flexing, it may have been what it took. I spoke with a glass shop last night and he said it wouldn't be a problem to order a new pane. He couldn't give an exact quote without looking at the frame, but he thought it would be around $80 or less. That isn't quite as bad as I thought. If my one year warranty wasn't up, I would be back at the shop pissing and moaning a little.

I never had a panel cracked but my door is about a 1/4 inch to low and no adjustment I can find. Anybody know of one?

Had the same problem with our shower door. Called glass people he said looked like something chipped the edge of the glass (screw?). Had him replace it, $125. FR wanted over $600 said would have to replace whole shower enclosure.

You should also check with your insurance company, a friend had the same thing happen to her 5er, a complete new installation was covered.

When I replaced the glass, I recut the top aluminum channel the holds the panel in place to help bring the unit more into square. My door was out of adjustment too and this made all the difference. It may have been the culprit in the glass shattering too as I think it was binding a little. Hope this helps.

Re: Shower door glass.
Thank you for that info. Mine appears to be square but it seems to about a 1/4 of an inch to long. I might have to try that some day. Even though mine is not broken a trip to the glass shop maybe needed in the near future.

Yes, the rear bedroom has a slide on the passenger side.

Finding out that I need air bags on my 2004 F350 single wheels. The extra weight of the bed room slide on the drivers side really makes the truck squat.

The 32QBBS must be pretty well balanced, as mine sits pretty level with a small load of wood in the box and the camper attached.

Check the little holder tab at the bottom of the door that holds the long magnet strip in. I thought my door was messed up last summer but the little tab had slid down and made the door jam and then it fell out. found the little tab put the strip back in and all has been good since.
