Re: protection
45 ACP with license to carry. Also, 22 pound yapp'n dog by the name of Toby. Thank goodness, I have traveled many miles with no trouble....only friendly folks. I believe there are way more good people in this world than bad, but you only hear about the bad! Or course, it doesn't hurt to be "ready".

Re: protection
Yep, two pieces and a dog. A real concern for us because we are seldom camped near anyone else. Remember what happend in New Mexico a few months back?
I'm glad the protection discussion didn't go the other way; this is a family site.

Re: protection
We also use "protection" when we camp; more in some places, less in others.
We do quite a bit of wilderness camping, so we're just as concerned about the two legged varmints as we are the four legged and slithering varieties.
I have a 40 S&W; every other cartridge is snake shot/hollow points. I also have a 12 ga. loaded with 00 buck.
I've even been known to flaunt my 115 lb. black lab/german shepherd mix. He LOVES his family...HATES everybody else!! God have mercy on you if come into camp dressed like the mail man or a UPS driver!!

We do a lot of boondocking so its a .357 Mag for us. I shudder to think I would ever have to use it, but its much more frightening to be a victim.

Re: protection
9mm anytime I leave the house for an extended period of time, camping included. On occasion I'll even put my 12ga with some 3" goose loads if I'm going somewhere remote. I'll carry some trap loads with for the 12ga as well if a snake or rodent problem were to pop up.

Re: protection
45 ACP here as well, plus some other pistols and whatever when we camp, or on the trail. Late summer we compete with the bears for Huckleberries and we want to be able to enjoy them! Usually pack the 45 in the truck when driving for the "other" type of animals !!!!!!!!
And our Lab doesnt like UPS either!!

Re: protection
A wiffle ball bat and a can of hair spray are the most dangerous things in my unit. Theres no Way OUT Back around here unless your hoofing it through the mountains or running a boat up the river and camp on a sand bar. But I've hardly ever carried a fire arm on those trips either.

Re: protection
Yes! I never did until last year. We were in a State Park 20 miles from home. While there, one evening a 16/17 year old girl was jogging one of the hiking trails. A homeless bum tried to attack her but she got away. Browning.... don't leave home without it. But I prefer a knife. Guess it's my family ties to Jim Bowie. lol
