things you don't want to see w/ camping

Post by G Herrmann on 10/10/2010, 2:49 pm

Sundaymorning at 5:30 AM I woke up and looked at the window shade and it was glowing orange. Opended the shade and the ridge on the other side of the CG was on fire. I took some pics when it was realy burning good but it was still dark and they did not turn out. The two white items between the pine trees are RV's. The blurry bump on top of the ridge in the smoke about 1/3 in from the right is a house.

The fire was much worse when it was still dark because at sunrise it started to rain. This is the only time I prayed for rain while camping. Thank you Helena Hotshots for putting out the fire.

Seeing a wildfire coming from the window of a camper has got to get your heart pumping pretty fast.

Thats a little too exciting for comfort!
Last year we were camping at Lake Eston State CG in Wa. state when a small fire broke out accross the lake. It was really interesting watching the helicopter dipping water from the lake in front of us and dropping it on the fire. They did a great job!

In 2001, we experienced this one night at Pyramid Lake, NV in our old trailer.

The first was about 1/2 mile to the west of us. We were camped on the shore so we were okay.
