Camping vs. Traveling
Its time for my favorite camping trip of the year again. We are heading to the mountains of the Monongahela National Forest, WV for 10 days of some the most beautiful fall foilage one can imagine. This trip is all about getting out in nature and enjoying the great outdoors.
We'll be standing knee deep in crystal clear mountain streams with Fly Rod in hand. We'll be hiking and mountain biking through some of the most beautiful land my eyes have seen. We'll be canoeing in rivers and mountain top lakes and of course... We'll be eating more than anyone should!
Cool evenings cooking over the open fire. Why does everything taste better over an open fire? Steaks, Chops, Chicken and fresh Trout will be on the menu. Don't even get me started on breakfast. Dutch Oven Biscuits covered in mom's sausage gravy with fried taters/onions and bacon filling out the plate. Mmmm Mmmm!
Relaxing around the fire at night with family, of course pie irons will be hot with black raspberry filling oozing out the edges; Marsh-mellows done just right on a long, green stick. Did I mention this family likes to eat? Bragging about the days catch or how beautiful the hiking trail was. Planning tomorrows day until the eyes get tired of gazing at the bajillion stars overhead.
We use our Cat for traveling like many others do but this trip.... This trip is all about camping.
This is what I enjoy most. I do love camping.

Can I go with you. Love to fly fish and I eat the fish I catch. I would love to see the fall foilage once again. See some in KY at FT Knox yesterday.

Now that the kids are not coming with us anymore I think we will be taking more week long trips in the fall. You make it sound fantastic.

We go on a fall trip every year and it is by far the best. Fall colors, crisp mornings with hot coffee are something we wait for all year. Have a great time!

One of these years I will make it far enough north to see fall colors.

Spent two fall weeks in the Shenandoah mts one year, watching the leaves change, FANTASTIC! Then went to Louisville, seen what you are talking about.

Take and post pictures of the scenery. Everybody gets so excited about beach vacations, but I'd much rather be in a cabin, in the woods up a mountain.

Re: Camping vs. Traveling
We spent 9 months at the KOA in Swannanoa, NC from January to September. It sure felt good to get back on the road again, even if it was to go home to NH.
Next year we plan on doing about 4 months on the road going out to the northwest and northern plains. Mostly traveling and then stopping for 4 days to a week at whatever place catches our fancy.

Re: Camping vs. Traveling
Before our children grew up, we camped. Now we do both. With relatives on both coasts, we travel with our Cat. When we get to our destination, although we are set up in a campground (Disney's Fort Wilderness, for example), we really aren't camping. Last week we had a very relaxing 4 nights at a local campground and camped. Because of the extreme heat this summer, and some minor health issues, it was our first time out since the middle of May.

You gotta love early fall camping.I like the empty campgrounds and the peace and quiet, and sitting by the campfire with a cup of coffee.
