2011 31TS Heated Tanks?

Post by rjgabel on 10/6/2010, 7:19 am

How are the tanks heated? I hope it is not from the furnace duct work. That would explain whey the bathroom and bedroom don't heat very well.

In our 2010 31TS we were not happy with the heating in the bedroom either. After talking to the service tech he advised that the underbelly was heated as well. His solution was to tape over a portion of the vents in the underbelly as we really didn't use it much anyway. Now we have plenty of heat in the bedroom. Hope this helps.

By the way welcome from Ft. Worth!

Thanks for the quick reply. Just to clarify, are you talking about the holes in the duct that goes up through the storage compartment on the backside of the outdoor shower?

welcome rjgabel. Unfortunately, the tanks are heated by the furnace duct work; not very effectively either, I might add.

As TeamPlumlee suggested, closing off the vent into the basement of your Cat will help some, but not alot.

I put a heat lamp bulb in the basement in the winter. It helps keep the basement warm, and also supports the furnace by heating the floor of the bedroom a little. Electric floor heaters are the obvious answer to get better heat to the bedroom/bath area.

Can you cut and install a closeable vent in the basement duct where the punch holes are? That way you can open and close or vary it as needed. I haven't looked very close at mine to see if this can be done. If the holes aren't wider or longer than a standard floor vent, should work.

I found some magetic vent covers at Home Depot that I will place over the holes in the duct work in the storage area. Also might place one over part of the vent closest to the fireplace and see if there is more air forced to the front of the camper.

In the winters of the western mountains of NC I found that the holes in the verticle bedroom supply duct were not sufficient to keep the basement above freezing. I hung two 60w lamps on either side of the basement and down to 4*F exterior the basement never went below 40*F.

If you're camping in the winter it's necessary to keep the basement warm because that's where 80% of the pex waterlines are located.
