Magic Chef Microwave Replacement

Post by Kim on 10/4/2010, 3:29 pm

Earlier this summer I accidentally put a noodle soup into the microwave and forgot to add the water. Several minutes later there was profuse smoke coming out and I quickly discarded the cardboard soup bowl but not before it badly yellowed the white interior of the microwave. No amount of cleaning will take it off and the smell lingers.

Although it works fine I'd like to replace it. Microwaves are cheap enough that it's not an issue. But I'm having a heck of a time sourcing model Magic Chef MCD990ARB (RV) and have come up empty handed. I was trying to get the identical model because I wouldn't have any issue with the black trim plate or the cabinet opening.

I called Magic Chef but they were absolutely no help beyond suggesting I try a local Home Depot but Home Depot doesn't carry this model. I considered going to a better microwave (stainless steel 1.1 cubic ft Panasonic with stainless steel trim plate) but it would cost around $350 which is probably 4 times the price of a Magic Chef if I could find one.

Anyone got any ideas?...I live in the Vancouver Canada area.

thanks, Kim

Have you figured out how to remove it?

Removing it was no problem...remove the trim plate screws, removed the trim plate, remove the microwave. It's trying to find the same model microwave that is causing me problems.

thanks

For factory parts you can contact Forest River Parts Dept.
They deal with East Coast models, don't know if they can help for West Coast models.

Their shipping costs seem high so ask for a shipping price before you order.

Thanks Earl, I will give them a call.

Thanks Tracker. Adventure RV wants $93 for shipping on top of the $190 purchase. At that point I may as well upgrade to a Panasonic...but much appreciated.
