Bump on side of Cat

Post by Scruffy and Tater on Sat 2 Oct - 4:04

We were outside enjoying the nice weather, and I glanced at the Cat. The sun was just right, and I saw a bump. The skin had pulled away in a place about 4-5 inches wide and 8-9 inches high. While Scruffy was examining it, he noticed that the plywood underneath had delaminated. He fixed the bump, and is now in the process of caulking possible places where water might have leaked in.

Here is the fix for the bump:

It's near the top of the photo.... kind of hard to see.

Scruffy stuck this spatula into the gap to hold it open so he could squirt in some glue

He used a pipe clamp to hold the skin tight against the plywood. He had to add some pipes to extend the length. I didn't take a picture of the repair after it was done, but the bump has been smoothed out.

I would look very carefully at the roof where it meets that corner moulding at the top. It is quite possible you are getting water running down inside that corner moulding causing the separation. From what I have heard, that is one of the most common places to get a leak.

Mine had the same thing happen, except the bump was in the middle of that rear panel, where yours was at the end.

I had pulled all the screws out from the side molding and put some caulk under the heads. Also added more screws too.

GOOD JOB!!!

Scruffy will check that corner very carefully. He's planning on going over the entire roof and corner joints. It's long overdue.

Good thing you caught it early before you had more damage. I check on my unit at least twice monthly for any spots that may have delaminated/water damage.

It seems like there is not much of an over lap on the corner moulding. So I think I will have to have a real good look over my Cat.
Well done Tater for spotting the damage before it got too bad.

I had the same problem as yours Scruff & Taterand more up in the middle of the right and left sides. That is the reason for both sides replace at the factory this last six weeks. Rod said the glue was bad and called it delamantion. Hope you don't have anymore problems.

Rhino when did you find your delamanation? I have the same model as you and I am now more worried as I will not get FR to repair mine. I am going to have to look all over the Cat with a fine tooth comb to check for any problems.

Great photos of the repair. I'll be giving our RV a good look on our next trip out.

I know someone who is rebuilding the rear wall of a 2002 Wildcat. It had bad water damage.

Anyhow, he ordered new corner molding and said it now much larger of a corner than the old stuff. I believe he said its 3/4 or 1 inch now. Although it would not be fun to replace all this molding, but if someone is having a problem, it would be advantageous to use the bigger after a repair.
