Looking for advice!!

Post by Atcboomer on 9/26/2010, 5:30 pm

So if you have read any of my other post you know that my trailer is at the dealership for some work. I have had it for 2 weekends and they have had it for 3. I was having some slide allignment issues and they have corrected those, but in doing so they put two small dents (from the backside) on the sheet metal that is below the slide. They are now wanting to remove the sheet metal and replace it. It looks like one big sheet of metal that covers the entire slide and skirt. I am just not sure i want them removing the sheet metal and replacing it. My biggest fear is that they will cause me to have a leak or some other problem that doesn't exist now. I can live with the two dents and you probably wouldn't even notice them if I didnt show them too you. Also while it was in the shop they removed a piece of wall panel in the bathroom and when they replaced it, it looks like they let the mechanics child work the staple gun. I now have about 50-60 staples in the wall where they re-attached it. I am hoping that they just had not gotten around to filling the holes with putty because we wanted to use it this weekend and they just didnt get to it before we wanted to pick it up. They also broke a piece of the trim that goes on the top of the wall. They just put it back up, all three pieces of it now, and just stapled the sh** out of it. Which leads me back to my first concern, if they can't put up an interior wall worth anything, why would I trust them to remove the metal on the outside and replace it and it look original. Any thoughts?

i would go with your gut feeling on this one. Those guys sound like they should be working in a junk yard and not a dealership.

I'd get with Tater and Scruffy and see who they recommend in TX.

I believe ATCBoomer is in the San Antonio area - that's a long way from where we live in the D/FW area. I think we have a member or two in the Houston area, but that's a long drive for ATCBoomer, too.

Not too sure about this, but sitting in doors looking at my Cats side, the whole side looks like one continuous panel. Which if I am right they cut the slide out panel out and reuse the panel for the slide. The part under the side moulding is aluminum. so if this is the only part that needs replacing it should be an easy job (even for people with two left hands using their feet lol! ) So I would ask the question what is involved in renewing the panel. As i see it, the damage detracts from the nice new unit that you purchased, and could impact on the resale value.

About the only thing you can do at this point is to ride them hard and NOT accept any repair that is inferior. However, the down side to this is you'll have to wait awhile longer to start enjoying your weekends away again.

One of the WORST feelings in the world is knowing somebody has you by the short hairs and you can't do much about it!!
