Electronic Stabilizer Jack

Post by Sean on 9/26/2010, 6:48 am

I had a look this weekend at the Electronic Stabilizer Jack, They look easy to fit any Cat. I really like the way they work, just push a button they go up or down. for $500 they might seem a little expensive but it does take the work out of winding the jacks by hand,(I use a dewalt cordless drill works a treat, I only need to find a remote to fit). I also think that you would still need the stabilizers fitted. I think Lippert missed the opportunity just to angle the legs slightly to the rear and I think that would have stopped some of the movement, that the rear steadies seem to have.

Electric stabilizer jacks are standard on all the 5ers I have seen. I guess when they ship them out of states they install the manual. I have the hydraulic jacks and they are fast compared to the electric.

The jacks I am talking about are the ones that are now being fitted to the rear of the cat instead of the manual type.

The electric are nice but very slow. Just as slow as electric landing gear or slower. Other wise they're sweet. They self level as well. I add a remote to mine as my OEM switch was clear up front by the landing gear switch. So now I can operate the jacks and place my wood blocks under them and not be running front to rear anymore.

Earl. Were they add as a factory standard or as an extra, also are they worth the extra cost?

Mine were factory standard at the time. The 08's and early 09's were standard. They went to optional on the mid and late 09 units. They're listed as standard again on the 2010 and 2011 units.

They're nice jacks and the self leveling keeps them from twisting the frame and carry equal load. If they're worth the price to upgrade to? That depends on how badly you want them and how big your wallet is. The electric motor is expensive, so I'm not looking forward to when it fails. They're made by Lippert and they can be bought from their store dept on their web site. It does beat bending over and or on your knees to crank manual jacks. After a few hours I just hold the button a few seconds and the jacks take up the slack of the ground settling. Than I do the same the next day. You don't have to worry about cranking one jack more and throwing the unit off side to side level or twisting the frame like manual jacks.

If you do add them, put the switch at the rear or rear side of trailer. Or better yet, add a wireless remote like I did. Mod is posted on here.
