Rear View Camera Install
It seems like forever before I post anything, but vacations a far and few lately.
I saw a rear view camera systems on the Costco website and after doing a little research it looks pretty good. The plan is to mount the camera on the bottom of the bumper(instead of up high because you can't see the wheels if you get a blowout) on the back of the trailer so as to look at both wheels on the boat trailer we are tripling with. I would then run the wiring along the frame up thru the forward compartment then zip tie it with the trailer connection and put an outlet in the bed of the truck which would be tied into the monitor in the cab. It sound good anybody see any flaws??

Re: Rear View Camera Install
I have installed the monitor in my chevy. Which is a 10.2 in screen with built in built in splitter, that can show 3 views at once. Came with one camera, yet to purchase the other two camera,s. I paid $130 off Ebay

I don't know what happened to my reply, but I purchased the unit from COSTCO online under auto electronics. You hace the option of 1,2 or 3 camera systems. I will post pics after I install, could be awhile I am very picky and kind of a neat freak.....

Here are a couple of pictures of my monitor that I took this weekend.[img]

fist picture shows full screen

this picture screen split in two

this one shows screen split into three

This last one shows location of monitor, just above rear view mirror no holes were drilled for fitment I just used 1 Large cable (zip) tie, which can not be seen. I removed the roof console so that I could remove the cubby tray, that is just below the interior lights to put my cable tie around the fitting screws of the tray. Reinstalled the tray, tightened up the cable tie to pull monitor tight up against the roof console, then refitted roof console job done.
I forgot to say that the cables for monitor were fed under the roof lining and down drivers door pillar. Camera is still not fitted, as other jobs need doing first.
Mountainmaxx if you install a camera to monitor your wheels why not mount the camera on the rear of your truck. if you mount it low near your hitch receiver you should be able to see your trailer wheels. If you use a reversing camera at the back of your Cat you will be looking at your wheels the wrong way round. (mirror image). If you mount on your truck you could see wheels and if you have a split/triple screen you could also see what is behind your Cat. I Purchased my system off Ebay, here is an ebay item no so that you could take a look 280473555235
scottandgrace don't get too excited it was easy to do and when I am finished, with the ideas that mountainmaxx has given me it will be just great

Re: Rear View Camera Install
mountainmaxx I missed the other trailer you are towing, If you use a triple split screen. One on truck Cats wheels covered, one low on Cat trailer wheels covered then one high on cat you will even see behind you. I sounds like a perfect solution of how to monitor all of you outfit from the comfort of the driving seat

Re: Rear View Camera Install
I like the idea of the camera on the back of the truck, but I can see the wheels of the trailer from the cab. My main concern is the boat trailer I am towing behind the 5th wheel. Its a single axle jetski trailer with two skis. I can't see that trailer from the truck except when making turns. We had a blowout last year on a trip to Lake Powell, UT and the only saving grace was that it happened one mile west of Grand Junction, CO. As it happened we drove without a tire for FIVE miles until someone passed us shouting obsenities before we pulled over. If the blowout happened on the road off of I-70 to Lake Powell we probably wouldn't have noticed until we got there since we din't see ANY cars, trucks or people for the whole route. I made a decision that if I drive any distance triple towing that I would buy a camera and monitor the show..
