pin box replacement

Post by GustheUsher on 9/14/2010, 11:32 pm

Hello All, just inquiring about pin box replacement, any sugestions on which one to use, I see there seems to be 3 players, Mor-ryde, 5th Airborn and Trail Air has 2 types. I think I am leaning to the Trail Air with the shock, we get some good chucking on the roads just across the border.

I have the 5th Airborne, and it has been one of the best mods I have done.....

I think you will find most everyone is happy with their change in pinbox, regardless of brand. I went with Mor-Ryde and am very satisfied. Tweetys has some good info and also good prices, generally including shipping.

We hear from customers that have all 3 and like retired2 said, most everyone appreciates the improvement regardless of brand. I know there is some variance from brand to brand as far as which pin box models they have replacements for. If you haven't already, check to see if all 3 of those brands offer a replacement for your particular pin box. That may help you narrow down.

Here is an information article we have put together on the Fifth Airborne's and which OEM pin boxes they have models for.

We put a mor ryde on this year. Made a huge difference. No more chucking, and overpasses are much kinder.
I think any pin box would have helped compared to the crappy stock lippert box it came with.
We changed ours before a 4000 mile trip. Made me a little nervous as we didn't get to try it first, but I wasn't looking forward to several 10 hour days pulling the way it was. Worked out well.
I thought the mor ryde seemed simpler and our Cat isn't very big. It works so well that I would probably use the same thing on our next one too.

I think I know what chucking is but what happens with overpasses? Please educate this TT puller!

Overpasses? Answer : Where the pavement does not line up with the overpass or the bridge or expansion joints.

Those bumps are terrible for any vehicle, I can only imagine how unpleasant they are when towing a 30 ft.+ 5er.

The bridge on I-75 that crosses the bay at Tampa,FL was one of the worst one's I'd ever had to cross in a Tractor Trailer rig, The first time I hit it I seriously thought the frontend had fell off. The air ride seat launched me into the roof of the cab . That was about 20yrs ago, The memory is stamped in my brain, literally.
Shocked

The overpass and road grade do not match. Usually the road settles and the overpass seems high. All roads here in the north get hammered from snow, salt, and heavy frost movement. A lot of these roads may have 5 feet or more of frozen ground under them by late winter.
The overpasses, usually stay put as the concrete that holds them up goes in the ground with footings below the general frost line.

Ok, I got it. Don't know if this would also work for a fiver but after I put shocks on my TT, I could no longer feel expansion joints or almost any other road anomolies through the trailer.
I was shocked to say the least.. Wink

Don't forget, there is another one: Demco Glideride.
