Fresh Water Capacity & load sticker not adding up

Post by Honker on 9/9/2010, 7:00 am

Hello, first post here. Bought a 2011 Wildcat 28RKSB last month. This is our third camper, but our first new one, and first fifth wheel. The first two were hybrids, a 2001 Fleetwood Prowler 17’, and a 2004 Dutchmen 19T.

Had one question. I noticed on the inside of the door and on the outside of the Cat there is a load sticker that says “Maximum cargo capacity is 3,300 lbs (can’t remember the number) and that a full load of water will weigh 342 lbs @ 8.33/gal

This works out to 41 gallons of fresh water. Not sure if this includes the 6 gallons in the hot water tank, but let’s say it does not, this only adds up to 47 gallons. Yet the Wildcat web site says 56 gallons fresh water and the downloadable Wildcat brochure literature says fresh water capacity is 58 gallons.

Something does not add up. Is the sticker wrong or is the tank smaller than advertised? It seems even Wildcat's website contradicts itself (by 2 gallons).

Welcome to the forum!

The stickers are all jacked up on mine too. My first clue was when I went to the scales and it didn't come remotely close to the VIN sticker or the sticker I found in the cabinet.

You know it's bad when the GVWR on the outside sticker is 11430# and the scale reads over 12500# between the load on the axles and pin. I have too many options I guess. Luckily it came with 6000# axles and the frame is strong from my research.

For the record, I installed a second water tank. I think they were 43 gallons in the 2006 model year. They weren't marked for that as you can't get to the bottom 1/2" of the tank-more like 40. I have a 10 gallons WH too. So overall I have 90 gallons available not the 96 I should have from the advertisements.

My unit also has the same label when everything else states 56 gallon. Dealer was no help and neither was Forest River. One of these days I'll either buy a water meter to see or measure the tank and try to come up with the volume. Also planning to add a second water tank after I weigh my unit and see if I have enough GVWR left for the extra weight.

Welcome to the rare 28RKSB floor plan. There are a couple others on here with the same model.

I used a water meter to see how much water the tank held, mine holds 151 litre's plus 23 litre's for the hot water. 174 litre =174Kg= 383.6 lbs.

Have any of you looked at the tanks from underneath three of my tanks were sagging so bad in the middle I could not empty them completely including my fresh water. I complained and sent pictures, Forest River paid to have my dealer add additional supports to make the tanks flat on the bottom. I know that the belly in the fresh water tank was holding an extra 7 gallons all of the time. This was not usable water as the pump could not draw from it. I was also concerned about stagnation

Good point. I will try to take a look, but the underbelly is covered in. Will have to see how to get access.
