Oceanside CA

Post by John on 9/8/2010, 8:21 am

Just saw a CAT going east on highway #78 at College Blvd. I thought I WAS THE ONLY ONE with a CAT in this area?? Maybe just passing through, couldn't get close enough to check for a number or to see the license plate. peaceflag

We haven't gotten our Cat that far west. We parked it in front of our son's house in Vista for a couple hours once, while we called around to the Discount Tire Stores looking for a new set of rims. We usually stay a few nights in Escondido when we're out there.

You need to get to the northern part of the state its a lot differant then the southern part, but coming from San Diego you will have to go thru a lot of ugly stuff to get here, but worth the trip. If you get up by Sacramento e-mail us and we will put you up for a night or two.

We lived 3 years in Arcata -- 300miles NORTH of San Francisco, but San Francisco always wanted to clain the northern designation.

Yep,,, Arcata is northern Ca. On the coast, Northern Ca. starts at Fortuna. East side it starts at Susanville. At least that is what us Northern people admit to.. char124

Wait,,, now it is coming to me.... Someone from Maryland went to Bakersfield, to see what California was like. After Bakersfield they went through Needles. I would not blame them if they never came back...

Personally,,, unless I attend another funeral, "still have wayward friends and family near Victorville" I will not go south of Sacramento. My wife and I were born and raised in the San Bernardino area, and 28 years there was enough punishment.

Being serious,,, Northern Cal. and Southern Oregon is a whole new world compared to So. Cal.

You got that right , I transfered here 18 years ago from the long Beach area and only have one set of freinds left down there and we only see them about twice a year. I did like the San Diego coast area but that was it. Did a lot of dirt bike riding and hunting around Victorville before it started groing up out there.

Southeast WA member reading the comments. by my guesstimation I'm only an easy 5hrs from the north CA border! By my reading of this post I'd reckon that CA could be split into North and South just like East and West WA or swappin' North and South Dakota for East and West Dakota!!!

Lovin the topic! I've visited some family in San Diego (santee), but would love to RV with the Fam in Oregon and northern CA.

Driving up the coast ABOVE San Francisco is a must do trip. Driving West from Redding to the coast is a beautiful drive with many lakes, streams and forests. Traffic is light north of Corning. On the east side of California, driving up 395 through Bishop, Mammoth, Reno Nevada and continuing up through Oregon has varied and beautiful scenery. These areas are enhanced by less traffic and more things to see.

Maxtor, I agree with you completely. Highway 299 from Redding to the coast is a beautiful drive, however it is not nearly as "exciting and fun" as it was 50 years ago with all the sharp curves and logging trucks.
