The New York parkways are notorius for this. The Sawmill River, the Henry Hudson, the Sprain Brook and the Taconic parkways all have very low clearance overpasses. Out on Long Island you have the same thing. Most of these parkways were built either pre-WW2 or just post-WW2. They were constructed for 50 mph traffic and automobiles only. If a NYS Trooper had caught you, you'd have had a hefty fine.

Even the Garden State Parkway (which allows RV's and buses) has a stretch from the Union toll plaza to the Raritan River Bridge that has arched stone overpasses. Don't ever use one of the two far right lanes when towing this stretch. A few years ago one of those double decker tour buses, headed to Atlantic City with a load of Senior Citizens, hit one of those stone arched overpasses and killed, maimed or injured quite a few that were on the 2nd deck of the bus.

BTW, the best way to get out of New England is I-84 to I-684 to I-287 (Cross Westchester Expressway) over the Tappan Zee bridge to the I-287 cut-off at Suffern (exit 15). You can take that south to I-80 or I-78 into PA or hit the NJ Turnpike going south to Deleware. Or, just take I-84 all the way west to where it ends at I-81 at Scranton, PA and go south from there.

I think I'll write a book called "Surviving The Northeast Corridor". lol!

Never trust factory specs, none of them! My trailer is a good bit higher than the factory spec. Factory spec was 11'11" with A/C and it was 12'1"! My bathroom roof vent cover pushed total height to 12'3".
