WILDCAT RECALL

Post by oldelmer1 on 9/2/2010, 3:32 am

I received my Good Sam newsletter today, and found this article in it:

http://www.goodsamclub.com/community/RVNewsDetails.aspx?articleid=2610163&utm_source=cheetah&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GSN09666_09012010_CyberSam

Attention FOREST RIVER / WILDCAT Owners!
Forest River is recalling certain model year 2011 Wildcat travel trailers manufactured from January 1, 2010 through july 22, 2010. The information for the models' gross vehicle weight rating, gross axle weight rating, tires, rims, and air pressure was incorrectly inputted in the corporate computer system. As a result, the gross axle weight rating label and the tire label on the vehicles is incorrect and may lead an owner to inadvertently overload the vehicle.

Consequence:
An overload condition may result in an axle or tire failure increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy:
Forest River will be mailing corrected labels to retail purchasers, and/or to dealers. The safety recall began on August 9, 2010. owners may contact Forest River at 574-206-7600.

I second that sentiment!! Maybe Phil should make this recall info more prominant so ALL our forum members are aware of it as soon as they log in. This has some potentially very serious ramifications as Tracker and Sean have pointed out!

I was thinking somebody a few months ago was having this conversation about what they could haul. And that the sticker they were quoting sounded kinda low. ?

I'll put a note on the front page ticker thing.

Doesn't surprise me. I ordered the optional 16" wheels and the factory didn't update the Vin and Tire labels for the 16". It had 15" wheels listed and 65 PSI instead of 80 PSI that the 16" tires require. Also they sent it with a 15" spare. It took a lot of emailing and calling to the dealer and Forest River till they stepped up and put the correct Vin and Tire stickers on the trailer. I thought I was gonna have to nark on them to DOT to get the correct labels seeing as it was a safety issue.

Earl, its funny I just looked at my stickers and it does indicate the 6000lbs axles and the 16" tires but says 65psi for the tires, go figure...
My 28RKBS was built in Oct/09....

Our new Wildcat has wrong label. Thanks 4 info.

Post by BigHornWildcat on 9/20/2010, 12:35 pm

My wife and I just got our new 2011 31TS. It is unbelieveable!!! We love it. But I did notice that they labeled the camper wrong and the axle/weight label is really messed up. If it wasn't for you guys, I probably wouldn't have known. My dealer acted ike he didn't know what was going on; and that's possible.
