Stabilizers

Post by Sean on 8/31/2010, 7:07 am

What type of stabilizers are the best, i have seen two types and I would like to know your opinion before I make a set for my Cat.
The back ones are easy, but the front ones I am not so sure about. I am going to make my own due to the cost,

Sean, they probably are all good. I have JT Strong arms. They were best priced at Tweety's I think.
The others I have seen look like they do the same think.

I have JT Strong arms, and they are great. Camper is solid and they are easy to use.

Thanks for the info Guys I will go with this type of design for my stabilizers. One problem I might have is the battery box sits very close to one leg so I might have to fix to front of leg rather than the side

I have the plugitright on mine and they have worked great. Their customer service is top notch too. I had a bracket break loose and they sent me a new one free of charge even though it was a few years old! Can't beat that!!!

Sean, I have plugitright on mine. They work well, I did not purchase the rear bars, because of my rear jack type. I moved my battery box. I took a piece of plate aluminum and set a new battery box inside the compartment. I found a battery box at Battery Warehouse that allowed me to use the same vented lid. Instead of drilling down through the battery box I attached it with nylon straps. This also will make it easier to add a second battery along side the first.

Re: Stabilizers

Post by Sean on 9/7/2010, 4:22 am

Here they are now fittted.[img][/img][img][/img]
They seem to work quite well, the ones for the back jacks are on the floor in picture, (but now also fitted).
I made them using 1.75mm chrome plated steel tube (what I had lying around) and welded fixings for the thumb screws, and also welded a U section to 2 tubes for fitting to the bottom of landing legs, jacks. the front tubes for landing legs have a drop forged fitting, welded in so that I could just bolt to the front of the landing legs. I used the same method for the rear jacks.
Another job done, what shall I do next?.

I did look at your fender install, and I thought that looks the nuts. When I got under my Cat I found all sorts of problems on offside slide out. The unit being a 30LSBS the slide is over the wheels there is only a couple of inches spare in few places. There is a lot electric cables/gas pipes and the slide mechanism to contend with. It does not look too bad when slide is out but when its in its a different story. But there must be a way of doing it, perhaps some one has and they could let me know. Because prevention is better than a cure

Instead of fenders, do you think just a peice of metal up at the top attached with some short screws would help? At least it would protect the cheap vinyl material thats covering the insulation in case of a blowout.

I have been under the slide again to day to give it a bit of a clean, and to assess the possibilities of a fender install, If I weld three or four brackets to the chassis rail I think it would be possible to add fender to my to do list.

First weekend away since fitting the stabilizers, what a difference they make. the floor of the unit feels a lot firmer and also there is a lot less movement when over the hitch. So a job well worth doing.

Hi oldelmar1, I can send you some plans on how to make them, but I am surprised that you don't already have a set, due to the amount of traveling you do (judging by your map).

I'd be interested in your plans also if your willing to share them. They look great. I added a set of the BAL stabilizers to the back but want to add them to the front also.

Hi Sean, We don't have them, and your right we probably should have a set. I know its been discussed many times here. We don't really have a problem with sway very often, but when we do, boy do we.

The plans would be great, THANK YOU!!!!
