How do you stop dust getting in your heating vents

Post by Sean on 8/25/2010, 9:48 am

I turned on the heating to day just for a trail run and I had a shock at the amount of dust that gets blown out of the vents, So I had to make some vent covers off to the diy shop and purchased a small sheet of thin alloy for the cost of £12.00 ($18.54) I then cut to the size and folded the ends to fit the grills and job done. One fitted and one to show the bends that it needed to hold in place. (please make sure that if you use this idea that you make sure there are no sharp edges to hurt you if you walk in bear feet)

We put those magnetic vent covers on ours. Actually, what we use are Texas Rangers (baseball) schedule refrigerator magnets - they're the perfect size. I suppose we could cover them with Contact to make them look prettier. But, what the heck, we kind of like having the Rangers logo on our floors. Wink

I replaced ours with plastic ones which can be closed.

Oh, yeah...... I forgot. We replaced ours, too. We found metal ones that have closeable vents. I probably have a picture of a "before" that broke, and the "after" with the adjustable vents on the picassa site (below).
