Post by larry-56 on 8/21/2010, 9:25 am

Anyone else having the same problem the plastic trim around the entry door glass has turned yellow was goin to remove trim and paint it but the glass is glued to it and if I take it out then I will have to seal everything again. Anyone have any ideas what to clean it with to make it white again also outsite speakers are turning yellow to everything else is white and really sticks out like a sore thumb. Thanks for any help.

These are common RV issues. They aren't UV treating some of the products. The only way you'll make them white again is to replace them or use paint that will bond and not harm the plastic if it exist. My outdoor speakers are doing the same. So far the entry door window frame is holding up.

Try Oil Eater, you can get it from Costco. Its a gallon jug and a spray bottle for less than $10.00. It will clean it back to white, for a little while, then it starts to yellow again.....

I took my window apart and painted the exterior trim, I also painted the speakers. Will be painting the scare lights, outside shower housing, small corner trim pieces at the bottom of the front and rear corners and anything else that is plastic. I use Krylon paint which is made for plastic. This paint is awesome. goes on real nice. The paint has uv inhibitors so it shouldn't yellow. Used some about three years ago and it still looks good.

Try Krylon's "Fusion". It really is special paint that bonds with plastic far better than any other spray paint.

Yep, that's what I used, the Krylon Fusion. It goes on better than any spray paint I ever used.

Thanks for the replys guess I will take it apart and paint it with the krylon fusion paint that may solve the problem will also do the speakers to. The cat sets with the sun hitting that side all day so I guess it did not stand a chance.

Thanks Larry

I'd use SEM Plastic Prep prior to painting. I first used it when I needed to paint my A-pillar for gauges in the truck. I used it on the WC prior to painting all the yellowing plastic parts. It removed the grime so the paint sticks better without softening the plastic. I got it at my local auto paint store.
