Distilled Water for Battery

Where do you get yours?

Do you just go to Walmart and buy their Distilled water, or go to a Auto Parts place and buy Distilled for batteries?

I just get it at the grocery store or Walmart when they have it. Sometimes it's hard to find.

I also get mine at the grocery store.

Must be more plentiful in my area; often times they'll have them advertised 2 gals./$1.00

I buy the battert acid from the auto store rather than using destilled water.

Like most folks who polled in here, we buy ours at the grocery store in the gallon jug.

Has anyone tested the purified water against the regular bottled drinking water ? ........

By definition, purified water is filtered water. Distillation is a process by which water is boiled until vapor is produced. This vapor is collected and cooled until it returns to a liquid state. Because minerals are too heavy to be carried by the vapor, the resulting water is completely free of additives. For batteries, distilled water is the best to use.

I know how to make distilled water and the minerals will eventually fuse the cells together to kill the battery.
But will the life of the battery end before the minerals kill the cells,,, if you were to use regular drinking water thats bottled ? Since its filtered to some degree,,,, You hope anyway.
I remember using regular water from the hose years ago before distilled water was so easy to get. I don't remember anyone's battery killing over real quick. Seemed like they lasted just as long as with crappy water as it did with anything else. I wouldn't compare it to clean battery acid I'm sure that lasted longer. I'm sure you used the water hose a time or two back in your day didn't you Maxtor ?

When I found my battery dry on this last trip all I had was bottled drinking water with me.
So , I've got it marked..... We'll see how much longer she last's. The battery is already 2yrs old. The count down is on.

Yes Phil,, I have used drinking water when I did not have distilled many years ago. Batteries then did not last as long as they do today, so I can't give a comprehensive evaluation. How long will a battery filled only with distilled water last compared to one with tap water?? I don't know. Logic would say that distilled water would be the better choice. Some areas have very soft water, which would not be as bad as very hard water. Distilled water is cheap here, about one dollar per gallon. I have two tractors, 5th wheel, truck, and five cars that use batteries, so I purchased battery tenders to keep them charged while they are not being used, plus keep the water level up with distilled water. My battery bill could get out of hand if I did not keep them maintained.
