TV'S & Inverter
Just a quick TV/Inverter question for the group.
While camping last week i tried to run our old 27" CRT TV off my 1000W inverter and it would just keep switching on and off, never a picture though. The TV say's 105 W power comsumption but i'm guessing the startup wattage must be much higher. Anyone have any idea how many watts it takes to startup one of the dinosaurs ??
Everything else ran fine off the inverter and the TV worked fine when i fired up the generator.
Thanks........Jim

I can't see your old beast using over 9 amps to start, but who knows, I use a ups backup to start large amp draw items, the capacitors in there take the initial draw on start up without taxing the inverter.

A ups is a "uninterupted power supply", its the small(about half the size of a car battery) box thing you would have at home that delivers power to items like your sump pump or computer system when the power at home goes offline. Its more or less stored power, you plug it in to the wall (110v) to charge it up then its good for about 45 minutes of delivering power if you want to plug something in when your power is off. The beauty of these is it has a large capacitor(stores energy) inside and is able to allow a large draw of power on start up of high power draw devices so it won't kick off your breaker. Its like a time lapse fuse allows more power through a line than what the fuse is rated for on start ups. I bought mine at Costco it was about 40 dollars. Its like a car battery that lets you plug only 110v items into it. Hope that helped
