13500 a/c amp draw

Post by GustheUsher on 8/11/2010, 1:52 pm

Anyone know how many amps a 13500 air conditioner on a 2011 wildcat 32qbt draws. Am I able to turn off all my breakers except air conditioning and run off a 15 amp 120 volt plug if I use my 30 to 15 amp reducing plug?

GustheUsher welcome to the forum. Depending on the unit, if it is a Dometic Duo Therm it is 14.6 amps. I run my A/C at home on a 20 amp house plug to 30 amp adapter all the time. You should not have to turn off the other breakers, just don't use anything else like the microwave, or you might trip the house breaker. I don't go any further then 25 feet from the house receptacle and I attach the adapter directly to my 30 amp cord. I do not use an extension cord.

I wouldn't run it on 15 amp. 20 if you're careful and don't have much voltage drop and that's on a rv cord, not a 10 to 15 amp ext cord.

I will run my A/C from a 20 amp house receptacle directly into the RV Cord. I do not use any other electricity in the WC when I am using the A/C. If I need to run the fridge, it is switched to propane. My House receptacle is dedicated to the WC so there is no other drain on the line. I get along fine this way. You do need to make sure you have good voltage to the receptacle.

I have a 15 amp breaker in my panel for the air conditioner, so I figured if i turn off all the other breakers so no one CAN turn on anything else I should be fine. I havn't blown anything with, air full blast, microwave on high, water pump going, and hot water heater cooking away, and inverter charging battery hooked to a 30AMP.

Also I use a #10 gauge cord so I don't have to worry about line loss on the cord to pull 15 amps.

OK talked to a tech at F/R today and he notified me that if I were to turn off ALL breakers and pull the fuse from my inverter, run my fridge and water heater on gas and DON'T use anything else electrical in the fifth wheel I would have no problem running just the air conditioner...good news with this heat wave coming this weekend.
