Fenders

Post by Duke on 8/9/2010, 4:33 pm

Has anyone put fenders above the wheels, to aid in repelling water? I was thinking about doing this and thought I would check here first. It wouldn't have to be a heavy duty fender, maybe just some flashing to help keep the water from the under belly. I think this would help a great deal. Thanks For any input. Duke

I think I saw a posting on this site under Diy from a member doing this mod, it seems like a good idea due to the fact when tyres blowout they appear to do damage to the under side of the Cat

Yes, I did. If you go to my modifications site below, you'll find photos and sketches.

Shooter your fenders look good. That's what I would like to do. Did you buy these fenders and if so where? I was thinking maybe TSC (Tractor Supply) might cary the fenders. Do you remember the dimensions, length and width? I guess that's asking alot. But it would help before buying fenders . Thanks!! Duke

I did see some fenders at Tractor supply. I'll check them out. Looks like about $99 for each fender and they run 9inches by 66inches. Thanks!!

Northern Tool also carries several fenders. You can look on their website www.northerntool.com . There are some for $ 40 and $50 and shipping is approximately $15.00 each.

When my tire blew out and tore out the material above the wheel,

I used the rubber sheet stuff that you put under hot water heaters.

I used some of the blue insulation board directly on the plywood thats under the material which should also repel water. I slide a long piece under the other insulation that was still there toward the back. Screwed and glued it in. Then stapled the torn stuff to the 2x4's . Then stapled in the rubber sheet to the bottom of the boards. Its pretty thick stuff. I bought it at lowes , you buy it by the linear foot. In the plumbing section.
I wanted to put more metal up there like shooters but I'm afraid if you have a blow out and it takes that metal down and that stuff goes flying around under the camper at highway speed your gonna tear up more stuff and slice and dice your other tires.
If the rubber comes down all you do is put slap another piece up there. Just my observation in a safety minded " What if "

I bought the fenders at the Northern store here in town. I drilled and tapped the frame using a long tap handle without removing the wheels. The trimming was done with a angle grinder.
