flucuating gas gauge
I have a 2005 GMC 2500 6.0L gas engine. the gas gauge flucuates from 1/4 to full and back. has anyone experienced the same problem? just returned from a trip to Washington state. One website said the cause may be a high sulfur content in the gas ruining the sensor in the tank or maybe just a loose ground wire.

Could be the instrument cluster, GM had quite a problem with them 2004 thru 2006. Hope it isn't that, it can get expensive. If you have less than 70,000 miles on the truck there is away if you talk loud enough to GM customer service or through your dealer, you might get it replaced for the cost of labor. My brother did that.

Re: flucuating gas gauge
My brothers truck was a 2005 chev 2500 HD 6.0 gas engine. He bought the truck used from a chev dealer in Jackson, Mo. They replaced the cluster for a charge to him for labor, about 75.00 The cluster was supplied by GM. It cost GM about 375.00 for the part. He had around 72000 miles on his truck. ribbs65 problem could also be a short in wiring or a bad gas gauge sensor in gas tank. The cluster was enough of a problem though, that GM extended the warranty to 70,000 miles.
