Sturgis

Post by Richard Mondavi on 8/7/2010, 1:26 pm

We started our trip to Yellowstone today. I was wondering why we were seeing so many motorcycles heading west on I-70 in MO. I found out that the Sturgis, SD motorcycle rally starts Monday. I'm guessing all those motorhomes hauling cargo trailers behind them had motorcycles in them too. I didn't see more than a couple of toyhauler fifth wheels though.
I'll bet Strugis is one heck of a party.

Hwy 550 in Colorado is non-stop motorcycles (and noise); they like the route from Durango to Grand Junction.

It really started today and goes to next Saturday. I have friends that have gone there and some of them are working there also.

It is something you see and do once in your life. Lots of fun and take a camera. I did it in 1998 and then went down to Dever area for a week.

The guys you see hauling their trailer queens are sissy's.

It is the ultimate party, you never know what you might see.

I've rode street bikes from the age of 15 til I was around 45. That article right there is what makes it hard for me to get another street bike. My friend thats a AMA pro road racer won't even ride a regular street bike. They give him suzuki dirt bikes which he stays in shape with in the winter. I've put a pile of miles in on a street bike and I ain't saying I'd never ride one again, but my little girl I guess keeps me in check with that Idea. I'd just sold my last street bike when a friend of mine I grew up withs parents were killed on their gold wing on the Blue Ridge Parkway when a drunk kid in a truck crossed the line and hit'em head on. I barely have the urge to get another street bike. Now if I hit a pine tree on the dirt bike ,,,,, I won't be so upset cause I know it was my choice to hit it.

I quit riding over 25 years ago when a guy ran me into a curb and missed me by a foot . I drove the bike the block to my house and have not been on one since, but still have motorcycle licence. There are several people killed on bikes around here every year. Alot of my friends have bikes and I worry about them when they ride , not their ability but the other people on the road . Jim

My daughter was telling me about another Biker that hit a guardrail and was killed this week also. He had been set up in a camp site just down from where her group was camping.
