Furnace

Post by 2USARetired on 8/4/2010, 3:51 pm

Are there propane/110V furnaces? We're planning a trip out West in January and keeping the propane furnace on in my Cat is going to burn through $s worth of propane. I know I could run a portable electric heater inside but my concern is that this will not allow me to heat the storage area and the tank area which are ducted. My thought was that a combo furnace would give me the flexibility to use electric when there is a hookup and propane when there is not. Looking forward to your comments.

A nice ceramic heater and a small fan will keep you toasty inside without using the propane or set it to barely come on if it gets really cold.

I'd think a couple of shop lights one on each end of the storage bay would keep that cozy.

Use a electric water hose warmer and add some extra insulation to your pipes under neath and you should be good.

Theres a couple of members on here that camp in very low temps so I'm sure they will chime in on exactly what to do.

I've never heard of an electric furnace for RV's, only space heaters. Depending on what western state you are in, you could be looking at some seriously cold temperatures in January. You will definitely want to keep heat flowing into the area of your holding tanks.

If you run your furnace with the thermostat turned down, then supplement with heat from an electric heater, you'll have the best of both worlds. Your furnace will still fire up occasionally, enough to warm the belly, but your main heat will be generated by the electric heaters. We have vornado heaters in our cat. They have temp adjustments as well as a circulating hi-lo fan.
