Post by Admin on 8/3/2010, 3:01 pm

Got me a new cruiser bike just before I left to go to the beach. It had been at a buddy of mines bike shop because one of the owners didn't want to sell it. Finally got him to let me take it.
My wife was like,,,, You've got to be kidding ? Your gonna ride that ? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well Yea !,,,,

I'm not sure, but I think you might have been stiffed; where's the motor?

I couldn't ride a bike with a seat like that, the bike seat would fit me like a thong. :)

Looks like Meredith has taken ownership.

Also looks like it will be a few years before she rides that thing comfortably.

It looks skinny in the pic but the seat is a big wide cushion beach cruiser seat with springs.

See my brand new FR fender ? The blow out made the other one look like a burnt beat up piece of toast.

If that were my bike, I'd name it Franken-cycle!

Fender looks good. Did the blow-out do any damage to the upper lining of the top of the fender?
I've not had a blow-out yet but figured the first one would take out the fender skirt and the lining above the wheels.

I'm planning to change to 16" wheels and LT "E" rated tires after next season. Hopefully my chinese may-pops will last two seasons.

Yep,,, Tore the lining out. I stapled what was left to the wood and then used the Rubber Liner that you put under hot water heaters. Comes on a roll that they will cut to size for you. got it at lowes.

I got some of the blue insulation board cut it down to fit between the 2x4 studs and glued and screwed them to the plywood. then put the rubber liner over that where the original lining was.

Had to splice in some pex pipe where it made a pin hole on each pipe that runs under there. Covered all that back up with the rubber lining. Tried to make it as water proof as possible. Even put duct tape over the edges of the rubber liner where I stapled it to the wood.

That one blow out cost :

2 new power kings @ 100 bucks each, it was a Triangle brand that blew , the original power king puffed out like a bike wheel but held the rest of the way home so had to replace it to.
2 new fenders from FR cause it was cheaper to go ahead and ship two for 130 bucks
supplys to repair the lining and water pipes 30 bucks,,,, Total : $360

Good Grief! Thats a royal pain in the rear!

A lot of time and money for a simple flat tire repair. I was afraid it would tear the lining and the skirt.

Now I'm thinking I should replace my Chinese may-pops after One season.

By the look of your picture, it looks like the bike belongs to your young lady. At least you had it for a little while.

Not to up you one Phil but I got a new bike a month ago and just haven't gotten around to uploading a pic. Since you started the thread I figured I should go ahead and add a pic! Just can't bring myself to go without a motor.

Its a 2005 Honda VTX 1300. It has the 240 tire kit on the rear. I guess one would say a Harley wannabe!! But it will do!

I looked at one here a couple of days ago. They look very nice. The salesman says that it has a top speed of around 100 mph, which is 25 mph slower than our old V45 magna we bought in 1983. When I did have the Magna, I rode with friends that had Hardleys, and of course they would raze me about my rice burner,, but the Magna would outrun their harleys. Yamaha has a 200 hp bike, that I am sure would more than keep up with the harleys, but it might be to much bike for me. None of the Honda's advertise their hp. In my opinion the Honda's are a much better looking bike, I just wish they made a four cylinder or made their two cylinders a little faster. Being left in the dust by my friends harleys is not a happy thought.

Re: New Bike.

Post by Admin on 8/10/2010, 2:14 pm

I guess I'm not a loyal brander. I've owned a pile of different bikes.

1st one 78' Honda 350 my grandfather gave me when I was 15.

2nd Harley sportser 1200, can't remember the year but the shifter was on the right , brake on the left.

3rd Harley police bike, electroglide 95 model I think.

4th Yamaha crotch rocket 600.

5th Suzuki katana 600

7th Harley WideGlide, 99 model I think. Rode it from Ga to Sturgis

8th 2002 Harley sportster 1200

9th 1947 Indian Chief ........ Greatest bike I ever owned. Took me a week of back roads riding to finally forget what I knew about motorcycles and ride this thing. Gas was on the left hand , timing retarder was on the right, shifter was on the right side of gas tank, Foot clutch was on the left. It was a doozy to ride but man was it a blast. It would put a smile on your face a mile wide. Sold it to some guy in Calif that wanted it really really bad.

A ride on the Indian.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh_4IihASRU

About a Dozen Dirt bikes in between all those street bikes. from honda's to Ktms and a couple of trials bikes thrown in.

So I love all things Two wheels, with or without a motor.

I am the same way. Started out on street/trial bikes then crotch rocket, dirt bikes and now back to cruiser. That indian is a good lookin ride. Don't know if I could change up and operate all the controls. I have to say of all the bikes I have had over the years the cruiser is my favorite.
